To feel embarrassed at good fortune

I grew up in quite a deprived area. My DP was lucky to fall into a career path where the employer developed his talent and he is now paid a lot more than the people we grew up with. We’ve bought a 4bed detatched house. For 10 years we lived somewhere quite ‘pokey’ and more like we where we grew up partly to save and partly to be close to family.

We had a housewarming and there were some whispers etc. My cousin said ‘it’s a bit la di dah isn’t it’. Another friend said , will we still be allowed to visit now you’re in a posh house.

Aibu to feel Confused

I’m not any ‘better’ than them or having airs but I don’t want to live in a flat again and am glad we have our ‘forever’ house. Why should I feel bad?

Don't feel bad then. The problem isn't yours - if there is one - it's theirs.

Forget what anyone else thinks.

Jealousy does funny things to people, but it’s not your problem - it’s theirs.

They should be pleased for you not jealous.
Don't feel guilty.

You are both living on the fruits of your labours - what's the problem.

Mummadeeze · 12/10/2018 19:38

How mean of them. I live in a pokey rented flat and my sister lives in a gorgeous mansion (am not exaggerating). And I have been excited and happy for her every step of the way as her and her husband made lots of money and moved up in the world. It is a shame they can’t be happy for you too and just enjoy your hospitality which I do when I visit her. Don’t feel bad, you deserve to feel good and enjoy your new home.

Jealousy, such an ugly emotion

Aww @Mummadeeze
My adored ds has done really well for herself too. Fab house (not quite a mansion though), fab lifestyle. But she's amazing lady and we 3 other ds are delighted for her. She and her DH deserve it. They are very happy.
