My daughter had a perforated ear drum 2 weeks ago, which has healed reall well but has now turned into glue ear.

We are due to go on a long awaited holiday next month and the doctor has said she should be ok to fly but given me a script incase her drum re bursts and was really not concerned in the slightest, but after a google it could potentially be very bad so was just after anyone with any experience either way?

DD is 10yrs.

Thanks in advance Smile

Olbas oil can really help with glue ear (in boiling water to steam her room at bedtime) takes about 3/4 days to clear

No other advice sorry

We had this when Dd was about 7 or 8. She flew home and was actually ok. The infection happened when we were actually away so we had no choice but to take the flight home.

My dd has had glue ear for quite a while and we have flown quite a few times without issue. She didn't have an infection or perforated ear drum though.

One of my DCs had glue ear between the ages of 2-12.
She still gets it to an extent.

When we went on holidays it wasn't just flying but spending all the days in the pool that exacerbated it.

We found that Vicks rub, liberally applied, helped. As did sucking on something ie a drinks bottle and getting her to drink from it throughout the flight.

In the pool putting cotton wool in her ears could help but I'm not sure that's the done thing now so do check first.

2 weeks until our trip now and starting to feel really anxious about the flight. Re reading your replies is making me feel a little better. Anyone else have any experiences? I have brought the "plane ears" and nose decongestics and lollies for her to suck on etc
