To quit my job and volunteer instead?

I've been really struggling in my current role due to a joint condition and work not putting in any adjustments. I've been on and off sick for the last month or so. I really don't think it's working for me right now and I don't feel the role is tenable moving forwards.

I'd love to go back to university and am in the process of applying for September 2019. Having studied previously, I know this would be fine for my joint condition as would the job afterwards (NHS related in an area where I have volunteer experience).

DP has suggested I quit my job and focus on increasing my volunteering / reading around the subject. We can financially afford it so it wouldn't be an issue from that POV but I'd feel bad for solely relying on him for a year longer than we'd planned (I know we'd be pretty reliant on his wage whilst I was studying for 3 years).

WIBU to do as he says and quit my job and just focus on my volunteering etc?

Isn't that what partnerships are for?

Sort of @Neshoma but I feel it may be taking the piss to expect him to support me for an extra year.
