To ask what hive or nest items

You have?

Getting one or other installed for heating and wondered what others have?

Nest...fantastic. it switches my heating on when I am getting close to home.

Also when hive is fitted it has to stay with the house so you cannot remove it if you move.

Also I hate British Gas as they are the biggest crooks trying to sell power flush services when I enquired about a Hive thermostat...idiots😁

Charlie97 · 06/10/2018 11:50

@maggie222 do you have any of the lighting stuff or doorbell or anything?

Watching with interest as I am looking at the nest security system.

kaytee87 · 06/10/2018 12:23

We have the nest heating system. DH is a techy and is thinking about the lightbulbs and everything else cctv I think too?
We've just had a big renovation including re-wire and networking cabling installed through out so one thing at a time!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 06/10/2018 12:26

We have the Nest heating system and the smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. We chose Nest as it turns off the boiler if there's a leak and because the alarm speaks rather than beeping. DH is partially deaf and can't hear the beep but can hear the voice.

We have Hive, got the heating and some lightbulbs at the moment. So easy to use, we didn’t even have a proper thermostat previously! The mimic function is great with the lights for if you’re away on holiday and want the house to still look lived in.

Tartsamazeballs · 06/10/2018 12:51

Nest- fire alarm (amazing, pings your phone before the alarm goes off, tests itself whilst you're out,), thermostat (also amazing).

Gonna get a nest doorbell when we move.

We also have a couple WiFi plugs (living room and bedroom lamps), and a WiFi light bulb in the porch.

Chromecast on the telly is brilliant too, turning it off and on remotely, and shouting "hey Google play hey Duggee on Netflix" is the best thing ever when the toddler is pissing me off. When the tv is on but nothings playing it slideshows our favourite family photos.

We run everything through two Google mini's, one upstairs one downstairs.

We've set up a lot of functions on If This Then That too.

We've recently sold our house and we offered to revert smoke alarm and thermostat to standard but our buyer wanted to buy them 😂

I do love technology!!

Net heating and a nest indoor camera which we use in the baby's room (have a regular audio baby monitor too).

The thermostat app on my phone is SO handy! I thought it was a gimmick but I love being able to adjust the heating when I'm in bed.

My relative has the doorbell and I think I'd like that, seems quite handy. I'm sure it's got some clever feature where you can talk through it or something so if you're out and a parcel delivery arrives you can talk to them about where to leave it.

gallicgirl · 06/10/2018 13:35

@tartsamazeballs how do you connect google home to the tv? Do you have special equipment?
We use PS3 to play netflix, player etc but I can chrome cast through my phone to tv

gallicgirl · 06/10/2018 13:40

Just having a look at the apps/devices that can be added to google home. There's hundreds more than when I last looked and I don't know what any of them do!!!

Tartsamazeballs · 06/10/2018 13:48

@gallicgirl

Depends on your Chromecast- not all early or integrated ones work with home voice control

Does stuff like turn TV on/off, you can tell it what to play on Netflix and I think you can control the volume too.

You can do YouTube as well...
"Ok Google, play baby shark for the eleventybillionth time"

If you want to do the slideshow thing as well... www.addictivetips.com/web/how-to-play-a-picture-slideshow-on-the-chromecast/amp/

gallicgirl · 06/10/2018 13:57

Thanks.

So I think I need to get a chrome cast thing to plug into tv and then I can access internet through wifi?

Tartsamazeballs · 06/10/2018 15:02

Yeh that's right, it's just a little £30 dongle thing. Worth every penny!

Charlie97 · 06/10/2018 15:05

@Tartsamazeballs thank you! That's amazing!
