Moses basket had grass in it...

Just bought a Moses basket from ALDI. It's lovely but upon opening it had bits of dirt and grass in it. AIBU to wonder whether it has been used before or returned! It was completely sealed with plastic so just a bit odd that it has dirt in it.

WIBU to ask for a replacement? Or should I just wash it? Can't work out if I'm being previous about this or not!

Perhaps it is from the manufacturing process - maybe they are made rurally piecemeal fashion.
Do you feel you could damp wipe any dust away enough to use it? If not, take it back. You can’t really thoroughly wash something like that.

Aprilislonggone · 05/10/2018 10:43

Anyone else think the thread was about Moses?? Confused

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 05/10/2018 11:35

Yeah Aprilislonggone I was going to point out it Moses mum probably used reeds, not grass.
As well as hiding him in reeds.

Assburgers · 05/10/2018 11:41

Same April & I was also thinking reeds.

Hadn’t even occurred to me until now that that’s why they’re called Moses baskets.

They were probably just trying to be authentic, OP Grin

PristineCondition · 05/10/2018 11:43

I thought grass as In Drugs

Zcarter · 05/10/2018 11:45

I’d take it back xx

RevRichardWayneGaryWayne · 05/10/2018 12:08

Reading the other responses I'm now getting mental images of the baby moses sat chilling in his basket with a spliff on the go!

OP - i'd take it back.

BarbaraofSevillle · 05/10/2018 12:14

I once bought some gift tags that had rude words like tit and bum scrawled on a lot of them in childish writing.

A lot of stuff like that is made/assembled/packed in prisons, so I assume that it was one of the prisoners having a bit of a laugh, and I probably just threw them away as it was highly likely that I'd bought them in the January sale so wouldn't have the receipt or know where they came from.

Strange that a Moses basket (yes I too thought that this was to do with Moses himself) is contaminated like this, but maybe it was made in a not very clean environment? If it's easily cleanable, I'd just do that, but if not, I'd probably take it back to exchange.

ilooovechristmas · 05/10/2018 12:23

Return don't put your new born in it what's on it you can't see? Chemicals? Germs?

KinderBueno5 · 05/10/2018 12:32

This is what it looked like when it arrived. Hair and all! Not awful but just made me think it was unclean... I am just wash it! But a bit miffed that it wasn't clean in the first place...

OP posts:
Fiffyshadesofgreymatter · 05/10/2018 12:35

That really just looked like stuff that could be blown in during the packing process. They aren't manufatcer or packaged in a sterile environment and sometimes to get stuff blown around and sealed in.

KinderBueno5 · 05/10/2018 12:40

Maybe I'm just being fussy. I think it's the hair that's a bit gross... it looks like a pube! Grin

OP posts:
FruitofAutumn · 05/10/2018 12:45

Can't see the pic , but moses baskets are woven out of grassy stuff.Could that be it?

KinderBueno5 · 05/10/2018 12:49

Don't think so @FruitofAutumn - maybe I'm being picky. It's just the pube-like hair that's a big gross... I'm also in that 'baby is coming! Must have everything clean!' stage so that could be it...

Who will take little baby?
I, said the water deep.
Baby will float in his cradle boat
And I shall rock him to sleep.

Who will hide little baby?
We, said the rushes tall.
Safely we’ll hide the baby inside,
That nobody sees him at all.

I would take it back and get another one.

SoupDragon · 05/10/2018 12:51

I think they have pretty good customer service so if you aren’t happy (and I don’t hink you’re going to be happy with a wipe down!) then contact them.

greendale17 · 05/10/2018 12:51

I would take it back and buy elsewhere

KinderBueno5 · 05/10/2018 12:53

Honestly, am I being unbelievably picky? To be grossed out by what looks like a pube? I can just wash it...

OP posts:
MinaPaws · 05/10/2018 13:08

You're not being picky. It's supposed to be new, not second hand and it's for a newborn baby. They should send you a clean one!

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/10/2018 13:08

Id probably just wash it. It'll have worse than pubes in it soon enough if you get a poonami nappy

KinderBueno5 · 05/10/2018 13:11

@Fluffycloudland77 but who's pube is it? 🤢

OP posts:
Aprilislonggone · 05/10/2018 13:17

Maybe one of Moses' dm's!??

DramaticGoose · 05/10/2018 13:36

I washed everything for my new born, I mean everything. Even stuff that was brand new. I went a bit cray cray with pregnancy hormones though. Recognize that it isn't necessarily normal though!

auntyflonono · 05/10/2018 14:22

I would return it!
