Okay, so I know I'm not being U.
We have sold our first floor flat, waiting on exchange and completion date so we can move. The other flat in the building on the ground floor flat has recently got two new student occupants, and they are fucking morons.
They:
- Can't work doors. At all. Interior doors MUST be slammed so hard the floor rattles or else they don't close, right? And exterior doors - including ones to the lobby - MUST be slammed ineffectually on exit and and left wide open, right? To invite all those lovely thieves in?
- Smoke AND spit, in that lovely throat clearing phlegm-y way, right underneath our bedroom and bathroom windows (ew ew eeeeew) which I did used to like to have open for fresh air... no longer. Oh and the place for shitty fag butts is on the path/the street/over the garden wall, rather than in say... some kind of bin, right?
- They are big fans of some kind of shitty European techno - ALL. THE. TIME. We are not sure where they come from, but it has YODELLING, and bass that comes up through the floorboards. Dicks.
- On Saturday night they had people over - they have people over from thurs to sat, making loads of noise, shouting, screaming, shitty techno, not even trying to keep it down - and at midnight cracked open the bongos. BONGOS, people.
- I'm 36 weeks pregnant - they have been told this. They give not one solitary fuck.
We're probably going to end up moving out right around my due date, so IDK if it's worth reporting them to the council, also I am aware it will show in searches.
My AIBU is should we bother reporting them to their letting agent? DH has asked them nicely, three times now to keep it down / turn down the music, and every time they say sorry, turn it down/off and then continue exactly as before the next time!
DH last night at half ten had Words with them again about the music and told them if it continued we'd have to report them (response varied between 'its only half ten!' yes, on a Tuesday night you twat and one of us has work and one of us is very pregnant... to 'sorry, sorry' as it has before). Today the yodelling music has just been switched off after a nice two-hour techno stint.
We're not U about noise in general and never had any problems with any of the other students who occasionally had people over / a party, but usually let us know beforehand or kept it to a sat night and knocked it off by 11ish and were quiet and considerate and, well, house trained at all other times.
The concept of not being selfish dicks doesn't seem to have registered with these two. I want to feel safe here while we're stuck with it and wouldn't want any aggression as we may have a baby any time from next week, and I definitely don't want any complaints we make to endanger our sale - if we complain to their letting agent could it?
What do you think MN? Would you be bothered complaining or would you let the threat of being reported sink in and let it slide for now/until we move out of here?
