Should this be reported to police or not?

Generally, I tend to think "ummm no" when I see the Mumsnet line "log it with 101" however I have a situation where I feel maybe I should "log" it (whatever that means) with the police.

My car has been parked up all weekend outside our house, not moved it at all. When I left it on Friday it was fine. I went to use it this lunchtime and the driver side front and back has dried blood all over it. There is quite a bit of it, running right from top to bottom. It is in no way "covered" in blood but there is a substantial amount.

It has totally dried so been there a while. The way it is splattered and dripping looks like it squirted out and then ran down the car if that makes sense.

I have no idea whose blood it is, and my neighbours would have come to see us if they had seen. However, on Saturday night I did hear an argument with a group of young men which sounded very aggressive but I didn't think it sounded like anyone was actually hurt.

I don't know where the blood came from, when exactly it appeared, or any information really that, but I have a niggling thought I should report it to someone, just in case. Should I, if so who to?

I think I would report it to the cops yes.... Sounds dodgy.

Oobis · 01/10/2018 14:43

I'd log it with 101 - not for a crime number but in case it's a piece of a jigsaw for a serious crime.

Liz79 · 01/10/2018 14:45

Someone has been fairly seriously assaulted. Tell them

MissClareRemembers · 01/10/2018 14:47

Definitely report.

Tinty · 01/10/2018 14:49

Definitely report it. Maybe one of your neighbours has CCTV and they may see what happened to cause it. It could be evidence in a crime.

LoudBatPerson · 01/10/2018 14:50

Thanks, everyone. I was worried I would sound rather silly calling to say I don't know who or when exactly but I think someone has been hurt, but I feel better knowing others would report too.

It has unsettled me somewhat, more so the not knowing where it has come from and it has obviously happened right outside my house.

I would report it. It sounds like someone has been attacked and it could help the police with there investigation

Fiffyshadesofgreymatter · 01/10/2018 14:54

There may be an ongping investigation if someone injured with a knife turned up at hospital but refused to tell them anything. So it might be useful to the police. If it's not, then they will tell you but best give them the chance to say they want to test it.

SleepWarrior · 01/10/2018 14:57

Agree, tell them. They may want to photograph/take a sample if they suspect it could linked to something serious, so don't wash it yet either!

billybagpuss · 01/10/2018 15:13

Better to log and it be something silly than not log and it be the missing link in something serious.

Nousernameforme · 01/10/2018 15:19

I think phoning up and saying My car appears to have a lot of somebody's blood on it would have them out to look at it fairly quickly.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 01/10/2018 15:21

Take a photo and definitely log. They can take samples as mentioned above.

Gersemi · 01/10/2018 15:34

Is your car dented at all?

LoudBatPerson · 01/10/2018 15:40

Thank you all.

My DH is trying to get through to them now.

No damage at all to the car, no dents or scratches or anything. Just the blood.

My DH is trying to call as I am on a very dull work conference call.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 01/10/2018 15:45

Is it definitely blood?

LoudBatPerson · 01/10/2018 15:49

I am pretty sure it is blood yes. Well as sure as I can be without actually testing it.

OP posts:
iklboo · 01/10/2018 15:52

It might not necessarily be human blood - but it's still worth having a chat with someone about it.

Liz79 · 02/10/2018 16:05

What did they say op?
