Traffic post. First period after miscarriage - in agony

TeaCupp · 29/09/2018 18:29

Sorry to post for traffic but I'm slightly concerned. I had my third miscarriage about 4 weeks ago and woke up today to my first period.

I am in absolute agony. I have not left my bed today at all, whenever I stand up straight the pain is unbearable to the point I can't even have the waist band of my pyjamas pressing it. I have also had diarrhea (tmi sorry) since this morning and find myself shaking from the pain when the cramps come.

The bleeding isn't excessively heavy, just like a normal period for me but I've never ever experienced period cramps like this.

I did think it was going to be a horrible one as my boobs have been so sore all week. I do get sore boobs sometimes when I'm due on but not to the extent they were this week.

Is this normal to get mega PMS after a miscarriage? After the first two, my periods we're just normal. Im concerned about the level of pain I'm getting. It keeps coming waves and the tops of my thighs are even hurting.

I feel like I could throw up it's that painful to the point I haven't been able to eat all day.

I'd call 111 if the pain is out of the ordinary for you and so extreme.

MicroManaged · 29/09/2018 18:36

Call 111, I don’t think the first period after a mc is particularly likely to be worse. Don’t leave it, definitely get checked.

CaledonianQueen · 29/09/2018 18:36

I would call 111 too, you could have retained tissue which could have caused an infection. Alternatively, you could have a uti. You won’t know either way unless you call 111,

Neolara · 29/09/2018 18:38

You may have developed an infection. I would see a gp ASAP.

SpottingTheZebras · 29/09/2018 18:41

Sadly all that you have described could be completely normal. After each pregnancy, regardless of how it has ended, I have had an incredibly heavy period and been in a huge amount of pain. That said, I agree you should get yourself checked out to make sure it isn’t anything else.

I’m sorry for your miscarriage. Flowers

lilraven · 29/09/2018 18:43

I had this too. The first one was horrendous. My periods were painful for a year after miscarriage, they gradually became less and less painful. Sorry you are going through this x

TeaCupp · 29/09/2018 18:52

Thank you all for your replies. I did consider ringing 111 but I know some people really do get terrible period symptoms so I didn't want to be dramatic but I guess with the miscarriage as well it makes sense to get checked if they think necessary.

It's just so strange for me as I've always been lucky in that I never really have much pain with my periods. I don't know how people go through this every time.

I feel worse now than I did going through the miscarriage! Feel absolutely sick as a dog.

Op. I had 4 mcs and developed infections after two of them. Its really not that uncommon. I really would get your symptoms checked out.

Banana8080 · 30/09/2018 15:08

I had long, painful period after my MC a few months ago. Nurses told me to expect it. Take pain killers, baths, whatever you need - bed in and look after yourself. Loads of love xx

MeghanV07 · 04/10/2018 07:18

Sorry to jump on this post - how are you feeling @TeaCupp?

I've just got my first period after my MC 4 weeks ago and also in agony. Painkillers have seemed to eased it but I feel like someone has used my uterus as a punch bag. It's not usual period dull cramping it's just cramping? If that makes any sense 🤦🏽‍♀️. I also have sore boobs and never get those when I have a period normally so knew it was going to be a bad one! I've read that people have really sore periods after a MC & some babe incredibly light ones.

I think it's just our bodies working very hard to get back to 'normal' xxx

abbsisspartacus · 04/10/2018 07:28

Retained products? I had a small amount of umbilical cord left inside after I had my son (I had surgery to remove the placenta and it was left behind accidentally) the pain and bleeding was horrendous and stopped as soon as it passed

TeaCupp · 04/10/2018 08:57

Thanks for everyone's comments and kind wishes.

MeghanV07 I'm much much better now. My period only lasted a couple of days, Saturday was the first day and was awful (when I posted this thread), Sunday was sore but much more manageable and by Monday the bleeding and symptoms were tailing off! Hands down the worst and most bizarre period I've ever had.

Sorry to hear you're feeling rubbish too, I hope it's over quickly like mine was. I've had three miscarriages and after the first two my periods were extremely mild, not many symptoms and hardly any bleeding. This one was completely different, although the bleeding wasn't very heavy, the pain was horrible. Like you say, they weren't like normal dull period aches, more like sharp cramps where I couldn't get comfortable no matter how I lay, couldn't stand up straight etc...

Hope you get better soon Flowers

abbsisspartacus I was concerned about this but it seems to all be okay now. The timing was right for my period, 4 weeks since my MC and when the bleeding stopped/lightened, so did the symptoms so I'm just thinking a horrible period. Praying they aren't all like this now!

I had this after M/C #4 but not any of the others. Pain up my backside as bad if not worse than during the M/C itself. It lasted less than a day and I never had it again. My periods are still generally worse but that might also be an age thing. Much sympathy x

MeghanV07 · 04/10/2018 09:19

Glad you're better now @TeaCupp 💞

I didn't have any pain or heavy bleeding with my MC & my two periods before that were so so so light and only lasted 3 days, so I'm thinking it's 4 months worth of lining to bed shed and pain to be bad. The pain has gone now so hoping it stay away. Being a woman is so hard sometimes.

Thought I'd feel more at ease with having my first AF but I don't, I just feel worse. Crappy timing too as we would have our 12 week scan tomorrow so emotions are alllllll over the place xxxx

TeaCupp · 04/10/2018 09:28

MeghanV07 sorry to hear you're struggling but glad the physical pain seems to be gone.

It's such an emotional experience, it hit me in ways I didn't know it would, allow yourself time to grieve and cry. It does get easier Flowers

I feel like I may be in for it again!

My boobs are absolutely killing, I can't even touch them and I still have a week and 2 days until I'm due on Sad

@TeaCupp I've had EXACTLY the same thing since Sunday, finally feel 'normal' today but I've had flu type symptoms and felt so sick yesterday but still have over 10 days till AF... weird?!
