To want my DH to PICK UP HIS PHONE

I work on a stressful job with long hours and have a long commute. I’m on the way home now. I’m trying to call my DH to tell him I’m on my way home. I need to remind him to pick up a few things from the shops because I’m still household manager, obviously, despite having a long commute. The train’s delayed. And he’s not fucking picking up! How hard is it to answer a phone? I know what he’s done - he’s just left it in one room of the house and is doing something else like watching telly in another. But would you not think at some point in the last hour - my wife might be coming home soon from her long day. I’ll maybe check my phone and see if she’s on her way. He does this all the time. Ive asked him to get a landline installed to try to help the problem, which he hasn’t done. Does anyone else’s DH do this? It drives me absolutely mad!!

Do you have kids? Yes my DH is crap with his phone most times but if you have kids then I would expect more contact. Do you not have a house phone you can call??

Yes my DH is a nightmare for lack of phone/text/msg usage, but the landline makes a noise, he answers it

tealandteal · 28/09/2018 20:09

You could arrange for a landline to be installed?

timeisnotaline · 28/09/2018 20:11

If you don’t have kids send him when you get home. he might have to drive further to get to something open but hey , thems the breaks.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 28/09/2018 20:14

Do you normally ring him on your way home?

If the OP is still travelling home thinking about stuff that needs buying while the DH is watching telly, I'd imagine he's in a better position to do the landline sorting, which is presumably why he was asked to do so.

Yes, I've been in this boat. There's nothing more infuriating. And it sends you off into probably a deeper-than-required thought process 'why don't they care'. Truthfully it isn't a hard thing to be mindful of, I don't know why some people are like that - I guess we're all wired differently and either you can be happy like that or you're not.
Hope he surprises you with the stuff already bought! :)

It's actually the other way around I never have my phone on me. Plus I hate having extra jobs given to me when me DH is on his way home.

My advice, get a landline we did and that solved it a bit. Second bit of advice order food online and don't make popping to the shops midweek part of anyone's job, it's bloomin annoying and not something I want to do after a day at work. Eat what we have or wait until the Tesco shop arrives tomorrow. Sometimes we haVe rowed about needed something, potatoes, bread etc. And we literally do the Tesco shop straight after a row about getting the stuff and order to arrive at 8pm the next day. Problem solved.
