AIBU?
Paul Hollywood's prestigious handshakes...
trumptrump · 26/09/2018 20:28
Are the most annoying part of GBBO...
Surely there must be something in the contestant's contracts that force them to fawn over Paul and his overhyped handshakes?
Magicstar1 · 26/09/2018 20:32
I’m sooo sick of them....they’re trying so hard to make them a “thing”. It’s like Mean Girls “stop trying to make fetch happen”
MuddyElephant · 26/09/2018 20:35
He's given so many out this series, they really don't mean anything anymore
Biancadelriosback · 26/09/2018 20:38
3 in round 1 this week wasn't it? Absolutely pointless!
Busybusybust · 26/09/2018 20:38
I’d hate to have to touch him - he’s utterly repulsive!
GuntyMcGee · 26/09/2018 20:39
I thought the exact same thing last night. They used to be once a series. Now they're at least one per episode so they mean nothing but irritation for the viewer at the simpering recipient.
Easynow · 26/09/2018 20:40
We know where those hands have been
Is he married to his right hand nowadays?
Dobson4675 · 26/09/2018 20:41
I'm bored of bake off now. Used to look forward to every episode but now I'm on my phone throughout.
raisedbyguineapigs · 26/09/2018 20:43
Agree. irritating and pointless now. It seems like they are trying to make everything 'The Best, Most Difficult, Most Complicated First time Ever!' , just to prove they are better than the BBC version, rather than just leave it be and letting the viewer decide. They did fine last year, they don't need to try so hard to make everything a 'thing'. And yes, the fawning over Hollywood. Unnecessary.
trumptrump · 26/09/2018 20:43
I'm sure the producers and Paul himself think that Paul is the show's main selling point... the reality is that I watch GBBO in spite of him!
SoozC · 26/09/2018 20:44
I think it makes it worse when Sandi does a big, over-the-head clapping with a massive smile in response. It used to be star baker was the thing, now it seems to be these handshakes are more prestigious. I agree, they're becoming ridiculous.
VickyEadie · 26/09/2018 20:46
We're watching it now. Totally ridiculous the way Hollywood dishes out handshakes. Fucking "biscuit chandelier" indeed.
ImperfectTents · 26/09/2018 20:49
I preferred the great British pottery show when the guy used to cry if he really liked something.
Paul Hollywood looks like he is about to explode, like he swallowed the umpa lumpa chewing gum but there was orange for pudding instead of blueberry
AlphaBravo · 26/09/2018 20:53
Have you seen how he kneads a loaf??!! Imagine those hands on your bum cheeks heaven!
theOtherPamAyres · 26/09/2018 20:53
I think Pru should have an equivalent gesture.
Like, for instance, slapping a contestant's hand with a wooden spoon for substandard work. Go, Pru!
Happyasharrie · 26/09/2018 21:16
There are too many!!! They really annoy me now. Surely the bakers can't actually be that pleased when they can see how many are being handed out?!
Also some of the challenges are too over the top or ridiculous and are becoming annoying. I still love the show but can see it starting to grate if they continue to increase the frequency of the handshakes and weird-ness of the tasks!
beeefcake · 26/09/2018 21:16
I swear C4 must have asked him to give out more. They used to be a once in a whole thing but now he's giving them out left right and centre
ElspethFlashman · 26/09/2018 21:20
What's worse is the way the contestants crumple with fluttering gratitude. Even after seeing Paul fling handshakes willy nilly.
That said, I have to admit he is looking very well these days with the white hair. Dare I say a bit of a Silver Fox.....
............. I'm sorry, I'll see myself out......
curlykaren · 26/09/2018 21:23
YANBU. Plus, the tasks themselves have become so obscure, I much preferred on BBC.
PoxAlert · 26/09/2018 21:30
Agree with you @trumptrump
He's so sickening and fancies himself so much.
You're not the king of bake off mate. You're the one who followed the money instead of being loyal.
He's a twat and I can barely watch bread week because his arrogance reaches a (somewhat unbelievably) higher level.
