Me to dh: ds needs some shelves for his room
Dh: ok, but they won't fit in our car with both ds. Why don't you ask dfil and dmil?

(Dfil and dmil are retired and fit and healthy and always looking for things to do/ways to be helpful and regularly make trips to the city IKEA is in)

Me: ok

Me to mil: do you have any ikea trips planned? If so could you pick up a shelving unit?

Mil: yes, of course - I have something to do in the shopping centre next to ikea anyway. We will go ok Tuesday

Me: just whenever you're going - no rush

Mil: I'm going on Tuesday - let us know what shelves

Me to dh: here are three sets of shelves - what do you think?

Dh: I don't know - you decide

Me: I don't know - that's why I'm asking you

Dh: well I'm really annoyed that you asked my mum to do that in the first place - you shouldn't have...........

Who IBU?!

your dh...he suggested asking them in the 1st place right? just go ahead and pick one yourself, its fine to ask them to help out if they are going anyway and happy to! :)

MadameButterface · 24/09/2018 21:24

He is, he suggested asking her???? What is his solution to the problem of ds’s room needing shelves?

hiddeneverything · 24/09/2018 21:31

@MadameButterface his solution was to ask pil?!

Was he suggesting asking them to collect them, or care for the dc? Either way, they're shelves, just measure the space and pick whatever fits best.

TulipsInBloom1 · 24/09/2018 21:48

Tbh id have just said to dh "ok we wont all fit in the car with the kids so I will go myself on Saturday" then just left him and the boys.

hiddeneverything · 24/09/2018 21:48

@YouWereRight collect them. Their car is bigger than ours.

I think IWBU to ask DH's opinion on shelves.

MadameButterface · 24/09/2018 21:49

Have you asked him why he has got the hump with you for doing exactly what he suggested?

hiddeneverything · 24/09/2018 21:50

@TulipsInBloom1 ooooooh why didn't I think of that? A solo IKEA trip sounds bliss!!!!

I asked them because they are always looking for things to do and I thought they would actually like being asked.

OP posts:
hiddeneverything · 24/09/2018 21:51

@MadameButterface no point in asking - he's been in a mood all day.

OP posts:
TulipsInBloom1 · 24/09/2018 21:51

Solo is the only way to do IKEA. I nearly buried my dc in the soft toys and ran away on Saturday.

hiddeneverything · 24/09/2018 21:52

@TulipsInBloom1 well done you for taking them! I can't believe DH and I are having an IKEA argument without even entering the fecking building.

OP posts:
MadameButterface · 24/09/2018 21:53

Can you honestly not wait till dc are in bed and say ‘i don’t really understand why you’re angry with me, can we talk?’ ?

hiddeneverything · 24/09/2018 21:54

@MadameButterface he's nightshift. I think that's the cause of his mood. I will no doubt get an apology in the morning

OP posts:
YouWereRight · 24/09/2018 22:05

Ah, dp would definitely rather leave the dc with their grandparents and go to IKEA with me.

Cindersdonegood · 24/09/2018 22:06

Wait wait wait. You guys would go to IKEA alone???? That place is the feckin' Daedalus's Labyrinth! If I'm taking that hell on, DH is coming with me! 😂 You could be lost forever in a sea of Malm, Songesand, Kvikne and Hemnes!

Avonandice · 24/09/2018 22:08

Im not allowed to go to Ikea alone. I like to buy things.

hiddeneverything · 24/09/2018 22:19

@Cindersdonegood and the candles....they get me every time, especially since I usually forget I've bought them!

OP posts:
hiddeneverything · 24/09/2018 22:19

@Avonandice I like to buy things too - I'm sure that's why he suggested getting someone else to go for us!

OP posts:
BouleBaker · 24/09/2018 22:27

I now live half a mile from an IKEA. It’s not s special trip any more and so I am no longer tempted by ALL the candles. This makes me a little sad. Your DH is being a bit of a plonker.

AGHHHH · 24/09/2018 22:30

Your huswang is being a ... Well.

anniehm · 24/09/2018 22:38

Sounds like my dh, suggests things then changes his mind.

hiddeneverything · 24/09/2018 22:47

@AGHHHH and @anniehm yip - to the point I actually thought I was being NICE by giving them a "job"/including them

OP posts:
Cindersdonegood · 24/09/2018 22:58

@Avonandice according to my DH I have that problem too. Luckily our nearest Ikea is almost 2 hours drive away. I could spend a small fortune in the kitchen section alone.
