To ask for help with 40th birthday present

It's my niece's 40th soon...and we are all racking our brains to come up with a suitable "special" gift. She's a total tomboy...doesn't do jewellery, make up etc, no interest in things like spa days...no hobbies apart from going to the pub with her mates! Any ideas?? I will spend up to £100 myself but a few of us could club together if there are more expensive ideas....

Could you ask her for ideas? Maybe she would like something techy, speaker, headphones etc. Amazon vouchers to get something nice would be better than something random if it was me :-)

TrudeauGirl · 24/09/2018 20:28

Maybe a fitbit type thing? Or a sports watch?

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 24/09/2018 20:33

Microlight flight. Flying lesson. Flyboarding.

Notatallobvious · 24/09/2018 20:36

She's not into fitness either...I did think maybe a Sonos speaker but don't you have to subscribe to a music service to use them? Don't want to end up costing her money as she's always short! It might have to be vouchers but thought it would be nicer to get something thoughtful...only I can't think of anything!

Footplate day driving a steam train? Some other kind of experience day that doesn't involve spas?

BackforGood · 24/09/2018 20:39

What about an 'experience' ? Skydiving, flying a plane, loop the loop in a plane, tank driving, driving a ferrari (or other fast car), hot air balloon, the longest zip wire (in N Wales).

Notatallobvious · 24/09/2018 20:41

I like the idea of experience days but I think she's scared of heights! So that scrubs out zip wires/skydiving/hot air balloon 🙈 Might look at rally driving or something!

Or what about a retro toy from her year of birth? Hubby got an original Spirograph for one of his big ones, it's brilliant!

Sparklesocks · 24/09/2018 20:43

If she likes the pub, is there a particularly drink she likes? Could you get her a tour of a gun distillery, or sign her up to a monthly craft beer type thing?

Sparklesocks · 24/09/2018 20:43

Omg gin not gun!

1Wanda1 · 24/09/2018 20:45

You don't need to subscribe to anything to use a Sonos - you can just play from an internet radio app, or podcast app, to the Sonos. Or free Spotify. They are brilliant speakers and I think would be a good present. About £200.

Parttimewasteoftime · 24/09/2018 20:48

I was going to say driving experience brought a Silverstone one for DH. Very popular and good fun depending were you are?

woodywoo2 · 24/09/2018 21:27

Let her put money towards a holiday?

chickhonhoneybabe · 24/09/2018 21:35

Look at groupon for deals on spa weekends, afternoon tea type things.

chickhonhoneybabe · 24/09/2018 21:36

Oops! Didn’t read your op properly... still look at groupon and wowcher for experience days ect

Bobcat14 · 24/09/2018 21:37

My OH has recently got a Sub machine. Basically a machine that lets you pour draught lager at home. I was a bit Hmmat yet another gadget but love it now and novelty of pulling my own delicious cold pint still hasn't worn off. Kegs come in many different brands of lager.

Nightwatch999 · 24/09/2018 21:38

Holiday vouchers!

Spanglybangles · 24/09/2018 21:51

I got a Sonos speaker from my siblings gs for my 40th. I love it and it’s on nearly all day every day. It plays my Spotify playlist but I mostly use it for listening to the radio during the day. I use TuneIn Radio which has countless stations.

Spanglybangles · 24/09/2018 21:52

No idea where that random gs came from

TeddybearBaby · 24/09/2018 21:56

So she likes booze?......... a cocktail making experience, wine tasting, there’s a beer tasting experience as well I think. I get memory presents a lot. Good luck!

Rollonweekend · 24/09/2018 22:43

What about a cool pair of noise cancelling headphones?

opinionatedfreak · 24/09/2018 23:57

I got a massive Lego kit. It was ace!!
