to hold to my opinion in a debate about 1 or 2-centre holidays?

Basically I mentioned to my dp that I prefer stopping in one place and doing daytrips out rather than spend say 3 days in one place, hop on a train and spend 4 days in another place as is his preferred style of holiday. He pointed out that you double the amount of countries you get to see then but my POV was that you then spend 3 days travelling - one to fly out to resort a, one to travel between a and b and one to fly home from resort b (often into a different airport you departed from for a which causes more logistical problems to retrieve cars etc). I can see his POV but he refused to accept mine as even being worthy of comment as he's paid for all our holidays together so I was being 'ungrateful'. I don't see expressing an opinion makes me ungrateful?

Umm... well it depends on what you like. If you have children them the constant travelling is way to much hassle, and a TWO centred holiday is better, a week in one place and a week in another. Doing an American style 'I saw all of Europe in a week' type of holiday isn't my thing. I think you're both beling unreasonable. Him for calling you ungrateful, and you for not being adult enough to compromise. You're a couple/family. It should make no difference who pays, (I presume you don't work then? Presumably that was a joint decision then too? With all the associated issues as to who pays what etc.) but the destination should be agreed by you both. Talk it out.

well seeing as it's your dh, and you both like different holidays you are both going to have to compromise at some point. How old are your children? Do they like flitting about? or do they prefer to stay in one place? I would also point out that if you are so called 'ungrateful' then so is he not to see your point of view. What sort of holiday is lined up?

Well we've had quite a few trips very recently as he wanted to get them in before he started a new job as he's gone contracting again. We went to Salzburg/Munich in March, Milan in May (we stayed put in one place for a week) then we went to Croatia/Slovenia for another week. He's talking about going to Germany over the August b/h now (which will doubtless entail another country/city). I'm appreciative that we've covered so much ground in such a short space of time as I've not travelled much til my 30s but my style of holidays have always been go to one place, stop there and do daytrips. I guess we have to work this one out.
