AIBU or selfish? So, it was my birthday yesterday, I knew I wouldnt get anything on the day as my mum had said shed missed the post for delivery for yesterday and said it should be here today, ( I live 50 miles from home) Postman has been...nothing. I have a young daughter, 6, who is obviously too young to go to the shops herself and get a card, and thats fine, my sister said I would get an IOU from her as she doesnt get paid till next week, this happens every year, and my dad came to visit me today, and because I never told him what I wanted for my birthday, he didnt bother getting me anything. I always make sure I get all there birthdays, mothers/fathers day gifts in plenty of time, and make sure they receive it in time too. AIBU to be pissed off about it, or am I being selfish?

I wouldn't let it piss you off but I would be miffed too. Next year make sure everyone gets their presents a week late Smile Happy birthday for yesterday Wine

What's your Dad like at choosing presents? Was there a reason why you couldn't tell him what you wanted? I'm not defending him, unless you don't eat chocolate etc, then he could have got a token present, for now.

I'm already planning my birthday for March. I was a LP, they are now grown up and have their own lives going on.

You should plan a special day, even if you are paying for it yourself. It stops you from sitting, fuming (been there).

Be honest with them, not in a self pitying way, but just so they realise that you'd like something on the day.

I'm not bothered by things to open, but nice food and usually a day out, is what I want.

@Birdsgottafly I suppose hes like most men and would have to be told what to get, but my sister would give him tips, i like most girlie stuff, candles, flowers, chocolates, perfume, I am grateful for whatever i get, and i do appreciate the thought if the gift is slightly off.A card wouldve been nice though.

To be honest, its not the lack of gift thats bothered me, its the lack of thought.

Flowers belated birthday wishes Cake

Not selfish at all, as you say a card would be nice, even if you had to wait for a little gift. So sorry you had a bit of a down day on what should have been a happy day.
