Ringing 101 to report a fight?

I live in a rough area. Ive just witnessed and filmed a fight outside my house, 2 blokes having a fist fight then 1 produced a hammer and bleed the other chap 4/5 times. Think he was struck on the arm. Then it stopped and the hurt bloke ran up the street. Should I phone 101 after the fact? Would there be a point? Also I would be concerned that it was easy identifiable that it was filmed and recorded from my house and that it would "get out" so to speak. I still have to live here and I have 2 young children to think about!

Yes I would report it to 101. They can then decide what to do or not do.

You saw a guy attack another guy with a hammer and didn’t instantly call the police?!

Whatififall · 22/09/2018 18:01

Tbh if he was hitting someone with a hammer in the street I think that warrants 999.

ApolloandDaphne · 22/09/2018 18:07

If i saw that i would have called 999!

TBH it happens frequently and the whole street have become decentisised to it.

Also when previous neighbours have rang 999 for similar incidents they've been told that unless the crime was still taking place then 101 is the only number to call. At the time I was dealing with two children under 3 so couldn't make the call there and then. Plus it was all over in 5 minutes. But yes 999 should have been the way to go!

So you couldn't make a 999 call during an incident that lasted 5 WHOLE minutes but you could film it? And you don't plan on sharing that with the police now via 101 incase of repercussions (which I understand) as it would be obvious that it was filmed from your home..... So why DID you film it?

I guess you were scared and unsure what to do, I would have been too. I would report I but I guess if it isn’t reported by the victim then nothing will come of it.
