Today's priorities

Dh and I urgently arguing about what should take priority today...

Original plan is for Dd to go her be grandparents for the day and stay overnight (she is 2, only the 2nd time she had stayed out!) Dh and I were going out the afternoon to a football game (he goes every week, I used to before we was born) and then we have a friend's party tonight.

Found out yesterday my car is broken (going to cost over £2k to fix) so need a new one. I suggested that we still drop Dd off as planned, I'll go the pub before the game, pop.out during the football to go and look at a car, then meet them all after and have our evening as planned.

Dh thinks this is unacceptable and I am spoiling the day off we have together. For context, I have a 45 minute commute each way to work so I need a car sooner rather than later. Today is the only day we have this weekend to try and sort it as tomorrow we are out for a family meal , and then we go away next week.

Prepared to be told I am being unreasonable.

Sounds the best compromise IMO (though TBF I'd probably be more than willing to do that as I'd prefer car-shopping to football, anyway!). He's probably as upset at the change of plan as at the fact that you won't be around. Some people hate a change in plan. But he's going to have to grow up and accept that sometimes practicalities take priority over fun. The rest of the weekend will still be as much fun as he allows it to be.

Why don't you both look at a car this morning?

The car should be a priority. He should also make this his priority. Spend your day off buying a car. Then go to the pub.
