To not want to be called a bitch as “banter”?

So a colleague, one who’s been in my department for a month called me a bitch.

Because he thought I’d done more work than him.

I don’t know this person. I rarely speak to this person as I don’t sit near him.

I feel pretty offended tbh

It's simply not ok. Not only terribly inappropriate in a work setting but also verbal abuse. When I worked in a bar I wouldn't tolerate bitch from the drunk customers, so definitely not from a colleague in conversation.

Thank you, I wasn’t even talking to him when he said it Hmm

I used to work with someone who jokingly called me a bitch. I wasn't offended as we often insulted each other, however I did respond that I was not a bitch, I was in fact, THE bitch, actually Queen Bitch if she was talking to me.

In my situation we were happy that nobody was serious. Your situation sounds different. It's not banter if it's one-sided, and it's not a joke if the other person doesn't find it funny.

Id pull him up , wait till he says it again and wipe the deck with the little fk

Banter is the excuse of twats when they want to be rude but to avoid being pulled up on it. It Is completely unacceptable in a workplace.
It wasn’t banter.
You were verbally abused.

Can't stand the word and he'd be told quite clearly by me to never call me that again under any circumstances or any other derogatory name like it.

Wolfiefan beat me to it. Hate it when people say, " it was just banter"

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 21/09/2018 00:05

Who claimed it was banter, did you call him on it?

Wolfiefan · 21/09/2018 00:09

Gareth could be worse. It could be “bantz”. Makes my skin crawl. Don’t behave like an arsehole and then claim it was all in jest.

dinosaurkisses · 21/09/2018 00:11

Does he think he’s a sassy drag queen?

Noodella18 · 21/09/2018 00:17

It’s not ok, definitely not ok. But it seems a bit of an odd thing to do. Is he an awkward type? As in, do you think he was trying to kind of ‘ingratiate’ himself by being ‘familiar’ and got it totally wrong and is now kicking himself? Maybe pull him aside for a quiet word and find out if there’s more behind it? If he sticks to his ‘banter’ guns I’d frostily tell him it’s not appropriate and if he does it again then report him.
