To ask how you pronounce the name “Mila”

Just that really!

A colleague has recently had a little girl with this name, i’m meeting up with her tomorrow and don’t want to sound a plonker when I don’t know how to pronounce the name.

Mee-la? Miller? My-la?

I say Miller but I think I might be wrong.

Meela but then people have been known to give their children names that are mispronounced.

Mee-lah. It’s originally short for the Russian name Ludmila, but seems to have become a name in its own right used by non-Russians.

@Holidayshopping I would also definitely say Myla! I like it spelt like that too. Like lyla but myla.

My fail safe method when teaching was to ask what their name was rather than how to pronounce it when it came to names I didn’t want to mispronounce. So when baby is presented tomorrow I would go with and who is this gorgeous little girl and hopefully mum or dad will pipe up with the pronunciation x
