Where would you go in central London for a really lovely, posh lunch - something different? Nice cocktails and great atmosphere - I have two weeks - please help

Sketch
The Ivy
The Shard
Bibendum
Le Gavrouche
I don’t like Gordon ramsey’s but some do

SlackerMum1 · 20/09/2018 19:15

Have a look at Yuatcha or Roka

IamPickleRick · 20/09/2018 19:16

Hawksmoor is really nice as well but maybe not special enough for a 40th?

IamPickleRick · 20/09/2018 19:17

Or (sorry, ideas keep coming) Coppa Club have those pods you can dine inside?

TeddybearBaby · 20/09/2018 19:25

I'm going to second duck and waffle

JennyWreny · 20/09/2018 19:32

Ah! DDogMum I was just about to say that not sure OP would get a table at D&W as I think you need to be booking a month or two in advance (maybe not for lunch though). Also, maybe not posh enough?

MatildaTheCat · 20/09/2018 19:33

Spring in Somerset House has to be the most beautiful dining room in London and a Michelin star chef ( Skye Gingel). Lovely atmosphere.

Sea Containers here is fab, not as expensive as some and has a brilliant cocktail bar. Right on the river and a very nice vibe. I went there for a big birthday girls’ lunch.

alleypalley · 20/09/2018 19:33

The Shard. Not eaten there but the cocktail bar is good.

Twistering · 20/09/2018 19:33

In week or weeekend? If in the week lots of the fancy Michelin places do set lunches which are great for the level of food, service, extra bits etc. Not cheap cheap obviously, bit v good value and special. Partic love Helene Derozze at The Connaught, lovely staff, decor, bar.

Twistering · 20/09/2018 19:35

(So extra bits meaning it says 3 courses but you get brought an amuse bouche and petit fours etc..)

MatildaTheCat · 20/09/2018 19:36

Forgot this place, I love it. Not fancy, fancy but a brilliant vibe and you can sit all afternoon. Really nice decor.
Ham Yard Hotel

Try The Ned in Bank, lots of restaurants under one roof.

PedunculatedPolp · 20/09/2018 21:42

I love Dans me Noir and think everyone should do it at least once! Happy birthday.

PedunculatedPolp · 20/09/2018 21:42

le not me!

AngeloMysterioso · 20/09/2018 21:48

Another vote for Sketch, or Brasserie Zedel. The restaurant at the London Edition is also great, I think it’s Berner’s Tavern?

brokenharbour · 20/09/2018 21:49

Duck and Waffle was terrifying, I couldn't eat after going up in the glass lift and I had to inch out slowly against the wall 😂 unless you're very brave I would avoid!

I quite enjoyed the sky garden but personally I would go somewhere like Hawksmoor for cocktails and steak.
