Deodorant for 11 year old.....

TeddybearBaby · 19/09/2018 15:37

Hi,

My ds (11) needs to start wearing deodorant now. He doesn’t mind spray or roll on. How important is it to have a child specific one or would an adult one be ok?

Thanks for opinions in advance

An adult one is fine and probably what's needed to get the job done.

Mulberry72 · 19/09/2018 15:38

My DS is 11, he wears normal adult Men’s deodorant (and far too much Lynx).

He uses the Nivea ones.

Bought a non perfumed, roll on for sensitive skin for my 11 year old twins last week

Mulberry72 My DH is a secondary school teacher in a boys school as complains about his 'Lynx' lung. He is convinced that Teachers breathing in Lynx fumes will be the equivalent of working down a coal pit in years to come.

dementedpixie · 19/09/2018 15:42

I think it's a Sure one ds has at the moment

DiscontinuedModelHusband · 19/09/2018 15:43

my 12yr old DS1 has various different ones he uses (all normal grown up one, Lynx, Adidas etc). he's got all sorts of allergies, but he's had no reactions to these.

8 yr old DS2 has a pack of Superdry ones he won in a raffle. he loves them, but we just told him to spray them on top of his clothes, in case it's too much for his skin - is that an option?

Disfordarkchocolate · 19/09/2018 15:46

We use Sam Farmer, especially made for teenagers, It works really well. We buy online and they post quicky but I think they have stockists too.

YeTalkShiteHen · 19/09/2018 15:46

DS1 (11) uses the L’Oréal men roll on one. Probably because DP has the same one.

SnuggyBuggy · 19/09/2018 15:48

I was wearing adult deodorant at 8, I didn't know they did child ones

Mulberry72 · 19/09/2018 15:49

KC I can well believe it! His two friends come and knock on for him for school in the morning and my kitchen smells like a branch of Boots when they’re all in there together! Shock

Timeandtune · 19/09/2018 15:49

I second Sam Farmer. All his products are unisex and great !

dementedpixie · 19/09/2018 15:50

Child ones aren't normally anti perspirants, just deodorants

TeddybearBaby · 19/09/2018 15:53

Thanks everyone!

My friend was saying that she’s going to get a child friendly one @SnuggyBuggy because she wasn’t sure about chemicals etc. for her ds who is the same age as mine. That’s how I came across the idea and wondered what other people were doing.

I’ll look into all the suggestions.

The child ones are pretty rubbish in my experience
Also I've found kids of this age are better with a spray as don't use the roll on properly (think my child is a bit adverse to the sticky wet feeling of a roll on so just dabbed it on very ineffectively)

dementedpixie · 19/09/2018 15:56

They all contains chemicals. I'd rather have one that worked rather than just mask smells

soupforbrains · 19/09/2018 15:58

MY DS is 11, just started secondary he uses Sure for men cream stick one which is very good.

As an aside Lynx is literally just a smelly spray. it's not an antiperspirant at all, doesn't reduce sweating or particularly affect BO. it's the male equivalent of Impulse/Charlie.

Believeitornot · 19/09/2018 15:58

Make sure his clothes are properly cleaned especially school shirts as these can accumulate the BO whiff. Also wash with a bar of soap instead of shower gel.

Then he can use minimal anti perspirant - adults one is fine.

dementedpixie · 19/09/2018 16:00

You do get lynx anti perspirants as well as deodorant

2BorNot2Bvocal · 19/09/2018 16:14

DS has adults ones. He likes Sure gold best.

randomchap · 19/09/2018 16:22

All anti-antiperspirants will work fine. You could buy a few different travel sized ones and let him try them out and choose one he likes the smell of
