Hi.
My child gets a school transport bus to the local specialist unit. Waiting for him yesterday the bus pulls in and the driver has one hand on the wheel and the other holding his mobile phone to his ear 😡 I am totally raging.
I will be calling the bus company this morning, Wibu to go to the council too and the police? I want this guys licence 🤬

Yes, committing a driving offence when there are driving a bus load of DC is about as serious as it can get.

It's an offence when you are in charge of a vehicle at all. Though I wouldn't report if he was only using it when parked. But as you say he was on the phone whilst still pulling in, then that's appalling

YANBU. He put not only your ds at risk but all the other children.

What was the idiot thinking of FGS.

Having had a few near misses with people in cars using their mobile I have to say that the man wants sacking. It is totally unacceptable. He has a duty of care, not only to his passengers but to other road users.

bustraintram · 19/09/2018 07:03

This is totally unacceptable. My job is managing school transport, and we would likely strip a bus company of their contract if this happened, it is so serious. I wouldn’t complain to the bus operator, because they may not care and it gives them a chance to conveniently “lose” CCTV etc (call me cynical!!), I would complain to the council transport department, and also to whoever is responsible for pupil welfare at the school. If the council are doing their job properly, they should take very swift action.

GruciusMalfoy · 19/09/2018 07:11

YANBU, there's no excuse for someone doing this. He's relying on parents not wanting to "kick up a fuss". He's a danger to himself, the children he's supposed to be responsible for, and other road users.

redsummershoes · 19/09/2018 07:18

totally unacceptable and illegal.

yes report him.
if you can, film him. try to get numberplate and face.

Excellent advice from bustraintram.
You tell his company like many theyre liable to close ranks. (call me cynical too but dont anyone say it doesnt happen)
Straight to Council Transport Department

alwaysontimeneverlate · 19/09/2018 07:45

The transport assistant also saw him after she had got up from her seat and she has already reported to the company. I have proof via txt message from her too. I had left my phone at home so wasn't prepared to photograph. If it's the same driver this morning I don't want him to get on! Putting him on that bus for the first time last September was one of the hardest things I have ever done, I know that sounds pathetic to some I am not 'not going to kick up a fuss' I'm going to kick up as much fuss as I possibly can.

That's shocking, made me shudder. Get the bastard sacked asap

MissusGeneHunt · 19/09/2018 07:49

Absolutely report:

  1. To the school
  2. To the company
  3. To the school transport section at the LA

Ask the school to complete an incident form to send to the county's school H&S Advisor as well. Demand a response from all three. YANBU.

Report to the Local Authority Transport department.

The bus company may not care if you report to them. They will care when they lose a lucrative contract.

Inform school, but your arrangement for travel to school is with the LA. School will probably also report, but theirs will be hearsay, whereas yours is a first-hand account.
