Probably not strictly AIBU but need traffic and didn't know where else to post!

Came home from work this evening and opened the mail from the box. Turns out I accidentally opened one of ex husbands letters. He hasn't lived here for 2.5 years.

It's from a debt collection agency chasing up payments from a loan he hasn't paid. He shouldn't be applying for credit to my address anyway as he doesn't live here but he has. We split up due to debts and lies and deceit and everything that went with it.

I've taken the letter to him (he lives in the same town) and asked him to explain why he'd taken out a loan to my address. Got seriously fobbed off just told me 'he'd sort it' etc.

Can this come back on me in any way if he doesn't pay re bailiffs etc as it's in my address? So anxious and confused right now! Thank you in advance

Hi, this has happened to me. Did you take a copy of the letter at all? If you did, phone the company and tell them he doesn't live there. Give them his actual address as well. You need the account number to get them off your back. If you didn't get a copy, you'll need either to get him to give you the details or wait until another letter turns up.
Next, check your credit rating and find out where you are financially linked - sever that link. I thought I'd cut all my ties but he was able to get a loan at my address because we were linked through our son's bank account! Hope you get it sorted - don't panic!
