Tax credits overpayments

I received a tax credits renewal letter around three weeks ago, they have assessed that over the past year we have been overpayed but there is no information on the letter about how to repay. So I have been waiting for a further letter/invoice with payment instructions but haven’t received one. Do they send this or is it up to me to call them to arrange payment? Tia

They will notify you by letter so no need to call them.

Tretchikoff- thank you. Do you have any idea of the time frame I should be expecting to hear? It worries me that I haven’t heard yet.

Yes, they will write and tell you that the amount you owe will be deducted from the amount owed to you for the next year. They'll spread the amount out over the year taking a bit out of each payment.

then next year they'll write and say you've been underpaid again and they'll pay you more. Then the year after that they'll say you've been overpaid and that they must deduct some from future payments, and the amount will go down again. Then after a few years of this despite the fact that you've always given them all the info they ever ask for they'll write and say you don't tell them enough details and say you owe them a bloody huge amount and the payments will stop or go right down or they'll ask for a DD set up to pay them back. Best of luck with the whole fucking thing OP

Oh god! That sounds like a nightmare! Our payments have stopped now so I will need to pay it all back

As long as you have an ongoing entitlement to TC/WTC they will reduce your new award for to pay back the overpayment as PP said.
I would expect you would hear in about a month.
If you check your Government Gateway account that should show your next 3/4 payment of TC/WTC.
