Polly pocket toys

I'm taking my 3 year old DT on holiday next week and I've just seen polly pocket advertised on tv and thought they'd make a great play set for the plane and when we're away, as they fold up so neatly.

DD will prob be ok with polly pocket but DS is already bloody gendered that pink is for girls. Can anyone think of an equivalent fold up play set which he might like?

I've googled but can't obviously see anything similar on the market. Or if anyone else has good ideas for travel friendly toys. Currently he favours Lego (bits broken off, lost, rage ensues) or large elaborate play sets like brio which obviously doesn't travel well.

Does mighty max still exist? I remember that being a favourite of my brother in the old days!

looking forward to furious hordes blaming you for your son not liking polly pockets

IceRebel · 16/09/2018 11:48

Ah Polly Pocket I had these as a youngster, there used to be mighty max toys which were very similar, as in they folded up in compacts.

RonniePickering · 16/09/2018 11:49

I friggin loved Polly Pocket!

Don’t know any alternatives, sorry.

SailorGirl3 · 16/09/2018 11:54

Do Micro Machines still exist? They used to do small sets

Ylvamoon · 16/09/2018 11:54

Why don't you just get him a tub of animals? I remember getting one for my DS with zoo animals including fence and play may from B&M ...
Other good things are stickers and plain booklet... Colour pens...

DarthLipgloss · 16/09/2018 11:56

I bought DS two Star Wars Micro Machines playsets that folded like PP.
They were 2.99 each in Home Bargains.

RedDwarves · 16/09/2018 11:57

Mighty Max was the equivalent. You can get old ones on eBay.

GrimSqueaker · 16/09/2018 12:00

If you can find them - Playmobil did micro sets which are similar. Hard to find now though.

NoNoNoOohmaybe · 16/09/2018 12:07

Thanks guys. Yup i did half wince writing this that I was going to get flamed.

Mighty max is exactly what I need but don't have time for ebay.

Will try home bargains.

Otherwise a box of animals might be the way to go, but I'm worried I'll have 11 hours of "muuuuuuuuum, zebra jumped on the floor"

OMG I didn't know they still made them! I remember I had a blue sports resort type one, are they really all pink these days?

SisyphusHadItEasy · 16/09/2018 12:10

There are Playmobil sets that fold up into a little carrying case, perhaps that might be an idea? They make them in a number of different themes.

cantfindamoniker · 16/09/2018 12:14

Mine used to like the fold up water mat and pen set. It has pens like felt tips but they only hold water, which you refill. You draw on the mat with them. It dries and you start again. Ds also like the Thomas Tank cards where the picture appeared when you scribbled on them with their special pens.

NoNoNoOohmaybe · 16/09/2018 12:40

Play mobile sounds great. Will google, but might be a bit big. We're doing quite a lot of walking at our destination so hoping for something small which will fit in the backpack and they can get out at lunch.

Pens etc are great for DD but DS doesn't enjoy drawing etc really. He's all about imaginative worlds with a large number of toys. He can play for hours quietly on his own if it's right. Obviously if this could be achieved on the plane then that would be a total win!

Darthlipgloss you are a total star, had to drive round to 2 different home bargains but I got a Star Wars play set and a spare for birthday presents.

Now off to get polly. Must remember I'm not shopping for me...

Would some of the larger Blox sets from Wilko be any good?

NotACleverName · 16/09/2018 13:43

Did anyone else have the Magical Mansion? I frigging loved that when I was a child.

When fod Polly Pocket stop fitting in hpur pockets?! That was the point of them....

Barmaid101 · 16/09/2018 16:04

My daughter got a polly pocket last weekend and hasn’t put it down.
What about going to Wilko and filling a small tub of their equivalent of Lego, but state as it’s not a set it’s not end of the world if he looses it as you can get a bit more when you get home again. Get him to see how many different things he can make out of that pot and take a photo on your phone of each one.

MipMipMip · 16/09/2018 16:05

God my typing. Sorry!

newnamechange1234 · 16/09/2018 16:13

Yes, I have the magical
Mansion in storage or the back for when my wee one is old enough!🤗 loved the wee car that shot out when the garage door opened!

NoNoNoOohmaybe · 16/09/2018 18:40

We're taking some Lego, he loves it so much but it's deffo got to be fully adult facilitated and I do get frustrated with replacing the same bit x1000 over lunch.

I made the mistake of letting her open PP this afternoon, but I've still not had a look in. Roll on bedtime. And I may have primed a second set so I've got one for the plane Blush

Ah I opened this hoping it would be a nostalgia thread.

My cousin returned my 20 yr old Cinderella castle this summer. Me and the kids were playing with it earlier. It still lights up!
