AIBU to think my parents should have considered this before moving?

My 5 yo is pushing the boundaries. At home, if she misbehaved, she sits on the "thinking step" (bottom stair so she cannot see the telly etc). Today, at my parents she was incredibly rude and so I sent her for thinking time only to realise I didn't know where to put her. My parents moved 2 months ago to a bungalow. I ended up putting a chair in the hallway. AIBU to think my parents should have considered the lack of stairs to use as a thinking step when they moved?

(Obviously I am not being serious before I get shot down in flames. 😜)

I don't get the joke.

ScreamingValenta · 15/09/2018 23:02

You'll have to persuade them to add an upstairs Grin

My parents moved to a flat without stairs. The most boring but safe place was being sat on a chair in the kitchen. DM bought a chicken timer, worked a treat. Two minutes of isolation followed by the alarm worked just fine.

My parents live in a bungalow, my nephew was playing up on a visit and his mum threatened him with the naughty step, he replied "don't be silly mummy gran doesn't have steps in her house so I'm allowed to be naughty"

sirmione16 · 15/09/2018 23:15

Did you tell her to go sit on the step before realising there weren't any Grin that would've made me chuckle to watch her walk around trying to find the stairs

BlackeyedSusan · 15/09/2018 23:19

you need to take your own thinking step with you ffs, some people are so entitled.. Wink

FelixTitling · 15/09/2018 23:21

Use a 'simmer-down chair' (Charlie and Lola)

Ginkypig · 15/09/2018 23:25

You need to get one of these.

(Less than £5 on eBay)

At grandmas you have a thinking stool!

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 15/09/2018 23:28

Use an upturned box to give the effect of a step

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 15/09/2018 23:28

Yes, your parents are incredibly selfish living in a bungalow!😉

POPholditdown · 15/09/2018 23:33

Oh OP! I can feel the blood boiling and disappointment from some reading this thread! Finger tips at the ready, to let rip at you Grin

You shouldn’t have put the disclaimer in at the end, and let them have their fun!

RibbonAurora · 15/09/2018 23:39

You may have to go NC, OP. Clearly they are totally self-absorbed and unsuited to the GP role. Give them a chance to redeem themselves first though, you don't want to come across as the unreasonable party here. Tell them they need to add an upper floor immediately or move again to a more child-discipline friendly premises otherwise you'll have to start advertising for new GPs.

KC225 · 16/09/2018 00:35

Throw him down the wishing well.

StonyBrokeAgain · 16/09/2018 20:55

FTFF she hasn't tried that yet 🤣🤣.

Sirmione16 it went through my head but I managed to stop myself.

I am seriously considering going NC although getting them to build a well in the garden is an option. Where is the best place to advertise for new GPs? 😂

Lol, we have that prpblem in our house...voila, a 'thinking mat' was introsuxed. Bloody brilliant- it was a bright red plastic art mat that could be folded uo and taken anywhere!!! Worked a treat for those tricky times!
