TO think my decorating idea is a good one?!

Small bedroom, not quite a box room but certainly a single room.
My idea for decoration - white walls with one "brick effect" feature wall.
Distressed oak flooring. Matching Black bedside table and drawers
(These ones)
Black and chrome metal bed frame with a colourful duvet cover.
DH thinks it sounds dull. AIBU in thinking it sounds quite nice?!

It wouldn't be my taste, but it sounds nice enough. I wouldn't bother with the feature wall if it's a small room.

hidinginthenightgarden · 15/09/2018 17:01

Sounds a bit show-room-y to me.

Paddingtonthebear · 15/09/2018 17:03

As someone who rents a house with a black gloss kitchen and tiny black bathroom, I say don’t do it. It looks dark and naff and black is a bugger to keep looking clean

Bimgy85 · 15/09/2018 17:06

I wouldn't go for black everything.. would prefer the furniture to have a pop of color maybe

Oysterbabe · 15/09/2018 17:06

Who is it for?

JellySlice · 15/09/2018 17:07

I agree with your dh. Lacks bedroom cosiness, too. And I would definitely not have a 'brick effect' wall in a small room, especially a bedroom.

Sorry Grin

Peterrabbitscarrots · 15/09/2018 17:07

I think it sounds nice. It’s the sort of thing my teen DS would like. I don’t think I’d personally use that scheme for a spare room though

Peterrabbitscarrots · 15/09/2018 17:09

Also, brick effect wallpaper is quite difficult to hang without seeing the joins, well for me anyway. I’d get someone professional to do it

Mishappening · 15/09/2018 17:09

Gosh - that truly sounds horrid!

That unit went out before I was young - and that was a long time ago!

Agree feature walls are for huge rooms, not box rooms.

LeggyLinda · 15/09/2018 17:09

Certainly wouldn’t be to my taste. But I accept someone might like that look.

VerWrongIca · 15/09/2018 17:10

To some that will sound nice and to others it’ll sound shit.

But that’s the same for every single room that anyone has ever decorated. Everyone has different taste.

I just painted a wall navy and I love it, the man from Sky came over and said it looked horrible.

It’s your house. Decorate it how you want .... or find a happy medium with your partner if he wants an input.

Oh if you’re doing it with wallpaper then I’d say don’t ... I did in my bedroom and it never looked right and I eventually ripped it all off and painted it white.

I love exposed brick, but only if it’s genuine.

PickAChew · 15/09/2018 17:12

I wouldn't want hard flooring in a bedroom and brick effect feature walls have been done to death.

straightjeans · 15/09/2018 17:12

The brick effect is going to make the room feel cold. I like dark walls in a box bedroom with bright bedding and art work on the walls. But that's just me.

AwkwardPaws27 · 15/09/2018 17:13

I think it sounds quite nice, but I echo another poster on black showing every mark, scratch and bit of dirt. I went for white bedside tables instead as the black version looked scruffy quickly.

Bluntness100 · 15/09/2018 17:16

I'm sorry it sounds awful. That brick effect wallpaper is incredibly tacky.

If you eant a feature wall go for something elegant, beautiful and restful. I love this squirrel and dove wallpaper from Sanderson, and you could do the remaining walls in one of the tonal colours.

Black, white and brick isn't nice.

Ceeeeeelia · 15/09/2018 17:20

It sounds vile. I'd usually say go for it if you like it, but if your DP doesn't like it it's not fair to make him live with it.

MaisyPops · 15/09/2018 17:20

It sounds awful to me. Sorry.

It's the sort of style I could imagine working well in a hipster/quirky cafe with distressed tables etc but not in a bedroom..

LRDtheFeministDragon · 15/09/2018 17:22

I'm not fond of brick effect, but the mind boggles at the idea of it being less tasteful and elegant than that wallpaper with the bird and the squirrel! It looks like the sorts of stencils you see on Etsy being advertised as perfect for brightening up a child's room for under a fiver.

Bluntness100 · 15/09/2018 17:27

This one is also gorgeous in real life. It's a mural so you do one wall and then you could have the rest white. But these are really expensive papers. You just need to find what you want.

Much depends on taste, but not brick, it just looks really fake.

CupOfStars · 15/09/2018 17:29

I think except the brick effect wallpaper it sounds nice for a guest bedroom.

EdWinchester · 15/09/2018 17:31

Sounds nasty - especially the brick effect wallpaper (although brick slips can actually look nice in big rooms).

Black and chrome never looks anything other than cheap.

PinkHeart5914 · 15/09/2018 17:40

Brick effect? 😂 No just no tacky as hell...

The rest sounds ok at a push

whoaskedyou · 15/09/2018 17:41

Black and white colour schemes are quite harsh. The floorboards sound nice so I'd go more natural, warm creamy tones , splashes of colour , a rug, upcycle the chest of drawers - lots of ideas on line e.g pinterest. Brick wallpaper is awful.

charliebear78 · 15/09/2018 17:42

Bet you wish you never asked?? :)
