To have asked her to move back..

I went food shopping today at ASDA, not a full shop but an overloaded basket should I say.

I decided not to go to one of the 'basket' checkouts because I had a basket full that had to be carried with two hands so went to the conveyor belt self checkout.

Scanning things through fairly quickly a couple came behind me with a trolley full and loaded their items on the conveyor belt.

I continued to scan and bag as promptly as possible but noticed the women got closer and closer towards me whilst moaning to her partner that they needed to be as quick as possible.

Suddenly the machine tells me 'unexpected item in bagging area, remove item before continuing' Hmm it wasn't 'unexpected' as it had been scanned but then had to wait for a member of staff to see and clear this. Whilst waiting the women said 'oh for fuck sake' I ignored it.

Member of staff came over, cleared the error and I went to pay with my card.

At this point she was almost on top of me waiting for me to move. My shopping was over the contactless payment and I felt uncomfortable and at this point annoyed at her attitude so turned to her before paying and said 'sorry but could you please move back so I can pay for my items, I'm almost finished?'

She moved back but looked shocked at me asking her to do this and as I picked up my shopping and left I heard her call me a bitch.

Surely I wasn't BU? Confused

I’ve asked people to move before, it’s so rude when they’re that close! If they don’t I don’t put in my pin till they do, they’re only wasting their own time then!

YWNBU, she was being a total bellend and massively impatient.

To be honest I would have mega slowed down just to piss her off if she was muttering about me under her breath- so you’re a better person than me OP!

Barbie222 · 13/09/2018 21:03

She was being very rude.

Charlie97 · 13/09/2018 21:04

YANBU! I had this one on a cashier checkout, I was making idle chat while packing in a normal speed manner. She said oh do hurry up I'm in a rush, I really wasn't being slow just normal!

I turned and said had you asked nicely and said I'm in a massive a rush could I go first, if would've met her!

But no it was early on a Saturday morning and she was whinging, so I too said well just wait your turn!

Charlie97 · 13/09/2018 21:05

*i would've let her! Doh!

NoFucksImAQueen · 13/09/2018 21:16

she called you a bitch? Shock

Sorry10 · 13/09/2018 22:25

She was rude , I find shopping v stressful I also hate when people full conveyor belt before I have finished putting my shopping on conveyor belt. Mind you last week nearly stopped a fight when 1 woman did exactly that and the other woman was v pissed off and told her so she went a bit ott but it's about invading personal space so not always realised .

findingmywaytoday · 13/09/2018 22:26

No. She was the bitch.

9amtrain · 13/09/2018 22:28

What a fucking bitch!

Tistheseason17 · 13/09/2018 22:57

YANBU.
Pet peeve is people getting close to me like this.
A chap tutted at me last week when I asked for space. I turned to him and told him that my children had better manners than him and that his behaviour was appalling. No way I'm letting kids think it's acceptable to be like this.
Too many plonkers who should have arrived 5 minutes earlier to shop.
Another thing to say as you leave is, "don't you just hate it when you pick the wrong checkout queue". I make sure I can run like the wind, just in case! 😉

TheFaerieQueene · 13/09/2018 23:00

Forget it. She is rude and her opinion is worthless.

I do this in the car if someone is right up my backside! I'm not sure I'm brave enough to do it when I'm on foot GrinGrin
