We live a semi detached rural property for around 14 years. Around two years ago the elderly couple next door sold up to a young couple.

They have run the place into a real state of disrepair over this period. They start jobs and don’t finish them, the front and back gardens are overgrown and full of rubbish which is fine l guess since they can do what they like in their own place.

They announced at the weekend they have caught 16 mice over the last couple of months ( we haven’t had any thankfully) but won’t get pest control in as they believe in killing them humanely! They own a small plot of land alongside our house that they have also allowed to be overgrown but Instead of sorting it out and decided to put old carpets all over it to stop it growing 😡

DH says there’s not a lot we can do but it’s getting me doe now and I’m beginning to get consumed by it all!!

I kind of get what you mean - it's probably unsightly and I'd be worried about infestations of rats/mice making their way on to my property. I agree with DH though there's not a lot you can unless your property is being affected (e.g. rats or tumble weed). Could you plant tall plants along the boundary so you don't have to see?

I’m more worried about the mice and stench from the carpets when they get wet and start going mouldy!
