Capri Islands?

mononoaware1907 · 13/09/2018 10:14

Hi everyone! Posting here for traffic!

We're looking to book our next summer holidays and Capri Islands crossed my mind. Anyone who's been there?

Where did you stay (we're looking for 4-5* hotels, but taking any lovely recommendations, really).

Is there stuff to do on the island?(such as day trips?)

What do you think?
Is it worth it? ThanksSmileSmileSmile

A really quick reply as I have to shoot out but just wanted to say I absolutely loved Capri! It's small but there is loads to see, I can't remember all the sights by heart but they are googled easily. Mount Solaro is fun to do, a boat trip around the island, wander through Anacapri and enjoy the atmosphere (it feels really italian there and most of the day trippers won't make it up there).

We had our honeymoon there in 2007 and long to go back one day. We stayed in Cesar Augustus in Anacapri.

@Helipad Much appreciated, thank you❤️

You mean Capri, Italy? The island is very small and swarming in daytrippers. Unless you plan to spend most of your time in the hotel there are limited things to do - boat trip, walk to Roman villa. We spent a hot day there and a few hours was enough really, although it looked lovely for restaurants and evening strolls once the visitors leave. If you want to see Pompeii, Amalfi coast etc would suggest you do 2 centres with a mainland resort.

The amazing coast is gorgeous and there's a ferry across to Sorrento. The hotel that Rob Bredon and Steve Coogan stayed in on their road trip looked amazing!

@LIZS Was thinking about the Amalfi coast too. Not sure where to go/stay so we have stuff to visit and just sunbathe. Thanksn

I think Capri is just one island. Beautiful but v expensive.

Positano on the Amalfi Coast is lovely if you are fit enough to cope with the hills and from there you could easily do a trip to Capri.

We had a lovely few days at the Weber Ambassador a few years back. Lovely sea views from there. The beach is pebbly.

We then finished the holiday in Sorrento for a few days.

Didn't enjoy Naples though and don't recommend it.

We went across this summer and were pleasantly surprised to get a two flavour waffle cone for 3 euros after everyone saying how much it cost but then went on a boat trip
A two centre trip sounds ideal. We did 3 cities and a week at the lido we jessolo for our honeymoon ages ago! Hope you find somewhere perfect for your honeymoon , Italy is great.

I always wanted to go to Capri and then I did...
As a previous poster said it is swarming with day trippers. It is also disproportionately expensive with not a huge amount to do.

The cable car to the top was fun, beautiful views and you can smell all the herbs below as you ride up.

The blue lagoon was Hmm
Shopping is amazing if you have the budget.

Restaurants are excellent.

I would stay in Sorrento which I loved and take one of the many day trip boats over to Capri with everyone else.

A trip to Herculaneum or Pompeii would also be within reach.

RedHelenB · 13/09/2018 10:38

Sorry holiday not honeymoon for you.

Capri is one small island and it's lovely, but tiny. We went for a day trip from Naples, I think, or maybe from Amalfi? I can't remember, but basically there's Capri town (small, chic, expensive shops and restaurants, crowded with day-trippers), and Anacapri, which is a bit bigger, but the things to do there are quite limited. We rented a little boat and did a 'giro dell'isola', walked up to the Villa Jovis, went to Axel Munthe's house and a church or two and we were done!

Are you maybe thinking of Ischia and Procida, which are bigger islands in the Bay of Naples?

KatieFinnegan · 13/09/2018 10:46

I'd agree with PP - It's fabulous, but 2 nights there would probably be loads. If it was me, I'd stay in Sorrento for the majority of the trip and then book a couple of nights in Capri.

Anacapri is beautiful, and less expensive/commercial. We stayed in Bussola di Hermes Hotel Capri - it was reasonable and lovely!
