2 boys (4 and 6).

I tuck them in at night and tell them I love them. DS1 responds (and has ALWAYS responded) with 'I know'! DS2 responds (and has always responded) with 'I love you too mummy!'!!

So why the difference?!

Does it mean anything?

Do your DCs have similar responses!?

It just makes me smile I guess!

I remember telling ds about 3 I loved him.
No reply.
I suggested he could say something nice to me ...
So he said 'thank you'!!

My friend said it to his 6 year old DS as he was tucking him into bed at night. His son looked back at him, paused then said "Dad I think you love me more than I love you" Grin

DS1 is madly into Star Wars and is channelling Han Solo?

Bingowingslikeashieldofsteel · 11/09/2018 19:58

My 13 year old ignores the declaration and/or just smiles. My 18 year old without fail says it first to finish a conversation - in person and on the phone. I don't remember whether he did when he was 13 though but if I'm not quick enough to respond I'll get a 'oh cheers, yep, love you too' sarky comment. Tbf he's a middle child so we just assume he's needy Grin

My eldest says it all the time but she has children of her own so she's an actual human these days. I suppose that makes her a bit of an outlier really!

DD1: “I love you as well, Mummy” and wraps arms tightly round me.

DD2: “Goodnight Daddy”
Me: “Do I get a goodnight?”
DD2: “No!” Giggles! 🙄

Sleepyandtired21 · 11/09/2018 20:47

I said to the little boy I look after “I love you!” And got back “I don’t love you, I love mummy and daddy and sibling name and the cat and go Jetters and the octonauts and Tom and jerry...” on and on and on, everyone except me!

cmlover · 11/09/2018 20:47

ds2 used to tell me he loves me more than toilet paper

I took this as a good thing as toilet paper is pretty vital

LaDilettante · 11/09/2018 20:48

From my three and a half DD this morning: ‘I love you mummy. I want earrings’.
Saying it with an ulterior motive is no better tbh...

Shehz21 · 11/09/2018 20:53

6 month old DD just gives me a toothless smileGrin

SevenOf1981 · 11/09/2018 22:10

I tell my almost 2 year old:

Hey honey, I love you!

She responds with:

Daddy too!

Outnotdown · 11/09/2018 22:17

I tell my 3 year old dd, 'I love you" and she replies seriously, "yes, and I love Alex" (her twin)Grin

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 11/09/2018 22:20

I’ve always told dd “I love you” at 2yo she said ‘wub do” 🤨
