...to think that 'name changers' are a bit wanky?

Ok...I'll excuse people who want to post anonymously about really sensitive subjects like having an affair, embarassing health problems etc. Or those who do it to jokey effect (where its obvious who that person still is).

But anyone else...why? Why, why, why???? Why change your name to tell us something very slightly embrassing or that doesnt cast you in perfect light? Are you the same people who then come back as your 'real self' and pretend your shit smells of lavender? Because if so, that is extremely (not just a bit!) wanky.

Please explain (and make it GOOD).

Why does it bother you that people name change?

I have used several different names on here over the years when posting about more sensitive subjects.

There are people who I know in RL who post/lurk on MN & in the past I was spied on by my own mother! I have name changed to protect my own identidy when posting about very personal issues.

Don't understand why it bothers you so much.

I can give you a reason, and I am probably more honest here than called for. I most likely should have changed my name for good after one of my very first posts here. I had got myself into a right mess and came quite close to embarking on an affair, and posted to get a kick up my behind and get spurred into action to end it before it started. I got a lot of nice and supportive replies, but I was discussed on a different thread alltogether. But I suspect this seriously influenced peoples perspective of me, and this reflects upon replies to me on other threads. And I have since completely out of the blue on other threads got questions such as "did you not recently post and ask how to book hotel rooms for the afternoon?" (And, no, I have heard of that thread, and that wasnt me.)

So I think I shall soon go change my name anyway. I just have to figure out how to do it. See I am that MN illiterate.
