Contractors in my garden

Last week the gasboard were here working for a couple of days as there was a gas leak. My gas supply wasn't affected, but two of my neighbours were without gas for a day or two.

They had to dig up the pavement in front of my boundary. My neighbour informed me yesterday that he had heard my side gate open and, knowing I was at work, went to have a look. He said he found one of the contractors round the side of my property where I have a pile of old paving slabs stacked against a wall and challenged him. The guy said he'd been told to 'make good' a paving slab and was having a look.

The paving slabs were spare from my patio in the back garden, the bit they dug up at the front was all tarmac pavement and a little bit of next doors grass, so no reason at all to need to touch any paving slabs. My side gate is one of those metal ones so you can see through it, howver all thats visible are the wheelie bins and the paving slabs.

I don't know whether the guy was planning on taking the slabs (there are probably about 6-7 of them there) or maybe he'd been round the back for a pee? AIBU to be furious that someone entered my back garden without permission, (there was no genuine reason)? I have emailed SGN with the contractors vehicle reg and am waiting a response.
