Aibu or are they always a massive disappointment? Often stale or overly sweet, for a shop that markets itself as premium they are extremely average. I only ever have them when I have one of the free hot drink& cake vouchers. Maybe since they've brought those in they've stopped bothering. Saying that I am working my way through them each time I have a voucher just to check that they genuinely are all awful. Today was apple custard tart- looked pretty promising- tasted awful! At least I didn't pay for it!

I have literally just eaten the custard apple tart in the cafe in oxford st branch. Sickly sweet.

I have never been overly impressed with JL food, either Waitrose or the dept store cafes. In fact the dept store cafes score very low on my list of places to eat, even if I am there.

I've left all my apple-y bits and just eaten the custard and tart like I'm a toddler Grin

Their cheese scones are very lovely.

The cheese scones are oK. That is what I ended up with as the only veggie option recently. I am seriously unimpressed by a shop cafe where that is all they had on a Saturday lunchtime. It I could have got a kids picnic bag with houmous and carrot sticks. I am not a child.

The scones are lovely. I often find any cafe cakes too sweet which is good as I’m supposed to be losing weight. But you can’t beat a scone jam and cream with a cup of tea.

Their carrot cake from the top floor cafe in Oxford St is divine and I hate sickly sweet stuff.

LollyLollington · 08/09/2018 16:29

Yeah I totally should have gone for a scone. They're sometimes a bit dry but and in any case I thought I should continue with my important research goal to sample the full range. Then as I was paying they bust out a fresh batch! I was torn but elected to stick with the tart. BIG MISTAKE! food disappointment is a Real and Serious Thing Sad
