To be really annoyed at ads appearing in posts on MN?

This issue has been raised in 'site stuff' too, but it's a very quiet thread and I'm posting here to alert more attention, and hopefully clarifying the issue!

As of yesterday low class ads started appearing in conversations on the MN App. It's not your 'usual' ads, but American ones with big dollar signs and gambling ads. It's the same type of ads you get if your computer gets a virus, and I thought for a moment that I had contracted a virus on my phone.

But then several others stated that they also have this problem as of yesterday, so I'm wondering; do you get them as well?

Do we all get them now, are they a new feature on MN, or has MN been attacked by a virus? They certainly feel very virus-y!

They're tainting my visual field and experience reading the threads! It's an insensitive disruption as well - imagine gambling ads popping up in a thread about gambling addiction..

Does anyone know how get rid of the ads? Or are they here to stay, is this our new, bleak reality on MN?
Hope not! Angry

Yeah these banner ad things in the middle of threads are a pain in the arse. Would an ad blocker get shot of them, if I can get one on my phone?

I've never used an ad-blocker, does anyone savvy know of a specific ad-blocker and the process of downloading it on a phone?

...also noticed the randomness of the ads, that is, some threads are free of ads, whilst others are polluted with them.. does it work a bit like the 'free' version of Spotify, i.e commercials after every third song? = unappealing ads after every third thread?

Website version of Mumsnet has all of those ads on the right hand corner, which is tolerable (I guess..). I hate the idea of ads popping up in the middle of text, though!

Yes I wondered too.
I used to get fairy ads which was fine. Now I get dodgy website ads

I got one offering to put me in contact with beautiful Ukrainian women. And as I type this I'm being offered San Miguel lager. On the other hand, Christie's have been trying to sell me oriental fine art. Eclectic mix. Not necessarily appropriate, but certainly eclectic. Confused

I used to get fairy ads but now it's ovulation and pregnancy tests which is actually really sad as I've had a miscarriage 2 months ago :( also about putting my parents in an American care home Grin

I use adblocker plus on chrome (google it, it's easy to install) and never see adverts. I can get it on my tablet too.

You know how most banner ads look like they've been put together by a graphic designer?
The ones I'm seeing look like they've been created by a 12 year old on a school computer in the 1980s.

For weeks now I’ve been getting those gifs of annoying women in plastic-wrap face masques that tell you ‘woman finds ageing skin cure -stuns medical world’ plus steroids guaranteed to get me an 8-pack stomach.

There used to at least be some actual products adverts, or some variety. Now sadly all my mn time is passed with alien-face lady. Sigh. Hoping for tips to get rid, before I start seeing her in my dreams Sad
