Sending children pork on Instagram!!

cantfindamoniker · 07/09/2018 16:27

My 12 yr old ds has had two explicit photos sent to him from someone who he doesn't know and isn't friends with. He was shocked and the app doesn't allow the photos to be deleted. The photos were very explicit of anal sex. He reported them and the account to Instagram who messaged back saying Instagram guidelines have not been breached!!! I can't believe it! What's going on? Can anyone enlighted me?

OP posts:

Is his account set to open or private?

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 07/09/2018 16:48
  1. You can delete the conversation rather than just the picture within the conversation
  2. Set his account to private
  3. Be prepared to be told the age restriction is from 13
  4. Good title
LollyPopsApple · 07/09/2018 16:56

Your son is breaching the site guidelines by holding an account.

MidwifeDreams · 07/09/2018 16:57

Why is he on Instagram??
There's absolutely no need for it.

ManyCrisps · 07/09/2018 17:00

His age isn’t the important thing here the images he’s being sent are. By the way OP I certainly wasn’t expecting this from the title

Perfect11 · 07/09/2018 17:02

That’s worse than photos of pork

CountessVonBoobs · 07/09/2018 17:02

You really should get the title fixed, but on the other hand I kind of hope you don't.

Delete your son's Instagram account and don't permit a new one.

Burning question: Is there a way to get free pork sent to you? Preferably in sausage form?

Pamdoo · 07/09/2018 17:04

That's shocking! I wasn't expecting that though from the title, I was expecting some sort of new craze amongst kids...

sexnotgender · 07/09/2018 17:06

Pork😂

SilverySurfer · 07/09/2018 17:08

If you're going to allow your underage son to use Instagram at the very least you should have set it to private (assume you can, I've never used it).

MidwifeDreams · 07/09/2018 17:09

I have to say, by the title, I assumed it was being sent to Muslim children offensively Blush

GladAllOver · 07/09/2018 17:09

My 12 yr old ds has had two explicit photos sent to him from someone who he doesn't know and isn't friends with.

This is why there is an age restriction, that you have clearly enabled him to breach.

No-one should be using social media until they can understand what it involves and how to control the settings to stop unwanted messages.

Thesearmsofmine · 07/09/2018 17:09

Set his account to private.

FermatsTheorem · 07/09/2018 17:16

The sender's phone number should be visible. I'd screen shot and go straight to the police, personally. And lock down the phone properly. (There's a reason why every time my son asks for instagram, facebook, etc. I say "no, you're not old enough").

CheeseAndOnionIceCream · 07/09/2018 17:20

Pork?

StealthNinjaMum · 07/09/2018 17:23

Such a serious subject but I'm sniggering at the title.

chocatoo · 07/09/2018 17:23

It's hard but I'm afraid I agree with PPs: should wait until 13 and ensure that it's set up properly!

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 07/09/2018 17:24

All very well for posters saying the OP has breached the age restriction, but would they be happy with their 13 year olds , who are allowed to use instagram being sent these pics?
Focussing on the age restriction is missing the point somewhat.

thereareflowersinmygarden · 07/09/2018 17:24

Delete the app

FanWithoutAGuard · 07/09/2018 17:25

Come off it - 13 year-olds should be being sent pictures of anal sex either!

Whatsthisbear · 07/09/2018 17:25

That's what I thought MidwifeDreams Confused

Op that is awful. Poor DS! No advice other than block sender & set to private. Hope he isn't too traumatised

FanWithoutAGuard · 07/09/2018 17:25

should not be being sent

thereareflowersinmygarden · 07/09/2018 17:25

Age limit should be 16 for unsupervised social media access anyway.

The senders phone number is NOT visible on instagram. You don’t even need to put a phone number on your account.

Lock your sons account down so it’s private and anyone he is not following will come up as a message request.

I wish parents would educate themselves about apps before allowing their children to have them
