We’ve had our faithful Henry for far too long now and we’re looking for something that will suck the shit out of our carpets. Can anyone recommend a good vacuum cleaner that actually sucks up dog hair? I don’t care about the cost, I just want hair free carpets again! Tia

I recommend the Miele Cat & Dog C3. It does the job really well, as long as you don't mind a cylinder cleaner that isn't bagless.

Cordless Dyson animal V10. I have a golden retriever - best thing I've ever bought!

I tried hoover after hoover trying to find one that could cope with dog hairs. I have 2 heavy shedding dogs and my new Shark hoover is amazing on carpets.

Don't buy a Miele Blizzard Excellence CX1.

I have long haired dogs and long haired people living here, so we have a lot of hair! There was nothing on the website page and nothing on the packaging that says this is not suitable for picking up hair.

It's got a "vortex" inside. Within a few minutes, it gets clogged with hair, so I have to dismantle it, remove the mat of hair and start again. Hoovering is even more of a chore now as I have to take the machine apart and unblock it several times.

If it's not that blocking, then the internal filter blocks and it starts automatically doing a "comfort clean" so I have to stand and wait while it clunks for a bit then starts up again. That has to be emptied regularly too and it's an absolute pig to get everything lined back up and put back in the machine. I had a black fingernail for months where I got frustrated trying to get the filter back in and managed to jam my finger end in the said filter.

Apparently there is a cat and dog version available, but this wasn't pointed out to me at the time of purchase. Big waste of money and I really regret buying it.
