Mental Health Nursing, Retraining and NHS working - posting for traffic

In April this year I went though a very tough time. I'm currently going to counselling for said event. At my session yesterday the counsellor asked me how I could turn what happened into something positive, perhaps re-evaluating my career or what I want from life. He noted that I seem to live for other people etc. Which is true though I don't begrudge it. I love my DP, DSS and DSD with an absolute passion but I don't always consider myself in things I suppose.

Anyway, for some time I've considered a career change. Mental Health Nursing appeals greatly to me. I'd like to hear from some people who have successfully retrained in this area:

Was working and studying viable?
This will be my 2nd degree, what support will be available?
I have zero healthcare experience, can i start the course and get experience working NHS bank as a HCA for example?

I'd like to get all my ducks in a row before I broach DP about this. I am 28. He'll have questions like the above that I just can't answer yet.

Many thanks in advance
