Yes I have name changed because I've talked about my life in detail and I don't want this associated!

I am in AGONY I think it's thrush but I don't know what to do. Got a new brand of condoms on Friday and we had a lot of fun this weekend, Saturday we had sex again and I began to get a bit itchy not my vulva actually inside my vagina and the opening. Sunday it got a lot worse. It's so itchy I want to chop my hands off!

I also have a funny heavy feeling? Like I've got a tampon in that's too low? I've not got anything stuck in there I'm sure of it! But that's not normal is it? No children no prolapse.

I went to get some thrush cream on Monday and they wouldn't give it me because it's my first episode of thrush for ages :(, I was in Work all day today and my period arrived a week early!

Qs!
Does this sound like mega thrush?
An allergic reaction or something else?
Can I just lie to the pharmacist to get the cream or pessary?
Wtf can I do about the swelling/ heavy feeling? It's so hard to pee because of the swelling! My urethra is deep inside the vaginal space and it hurts so much to pee. I'm fucking miserable!

Aibu to cry because I have thrush? I'm seriously thinking of taking tomorrow off work :( I can't walk or sit!

You should get yourself to the sexual health clinic pronto even if it means taking time off work.

HicDraconis · 05/09/2018 01:16

Do you have any other thrush type symptoms? (it has a reasonably characteristic discharge) Or just swelling and severe itching? If the former, get to a pharmacy and get some OTC antifungals. If the latter, it sounds more like an allergic reaction. Try taking an antihistamine to see if it helps.

If unsure (and especially given the urinary symptoms), go and see your GP.

birthdayboo · 05/09/2018 01:18

They wouldn't give it to you???

You can buy it OTC

Itchybitsy · 05/09/2018 01:18

It's just swelling and itchy, no discharge at all. It's horrid!

OP posts:
Itchybitsy · 05/09/2018 01:20

@birthdayboo yeah I tried to buy it otc and the boots pharmacist asked if I'd had thrush recently and I said no I've not had treatment for it before. I then got told I need to see a gp? Why?!

Allergic to the new brand of condom? I presume you've tried antihistamines (orally)?

SeaToSki · 05/09/2018 01:23

Take max dose of piriton and nurofen and see if it help at all. If yes, you probably are having some kind of allergic reaction, if no... you need a GP

Go to another chemist and lie. Thrush is the worst thing.

VanGoghsDog · 05/09/2018 01:25

Just lie to the chemist but say last treatment was about a year ago. Or order online. I was refused earlier this year for saying I'd treated it recently. So you need to say there's been a gap.

But, it sounds more like an allergy. Take an anti histamine and book a gp appt.

user1andonly · 05/09/2018 01:26

You poor thing, that sounds horrible and you would definitely not be unreasonable to ring in sick tomorrow and get an urgent GP appointment or google your local sexual health service as they might do a walk-in clinic near you. It does sound a lot like thrush but possibly a reaction to the new condoms and you need to find out which and get the appropriate treatment.

Don't feel bad, if it is 'just' thrush as that can be awful until treated and, if the pharmacy guidelines say to not sell you the cream, then it must mean you are being advised to see someone as you can't just leave it when it's this bad.

For future reference, if it is thrush, you can buy antifungals online from Boots, no questions asked, so you could have some in reserve in case it happens again.

birthdayboo · 05/09/2018 01:29

I would see GP asap then. Usually there's a reason when they change guidelines like this... new research alters things

CSIblonde · 05/09/2018 01:30

I've never been asked that. Try diff chemist, lie if same question & if no relief GP appt. I'm sure you can buy it off shelf at my big Tesco now by the soap/tampons etc (& kids nit shampoo is now not behind counter either). I walked past & thought thank the lord we've moved with times.

Itchybitsy · 05/09/2018 01:30

Right thank you I'm going to get an appointment with the GPs tomorrow I think. I'll speak to a pharmacist tomorrow as well thank you 😭 my poor bits!

Can I ask what age you are?
I ask because this itch is something I get just before my period but I am menopausal however it has been ongoing since perimenopause.

I take an antihistamine and use something like Sylk lubricant.
In the meantime you could try sudocreme or Vaseline or KyJelly for itch relief.

Itchybitsy · 05/09/2018 01:39

27, I did use a different lube too. God I've wrecked my vagina haven't I? 😭 it was from amazon do you think it could be fake?

OP posts:
birthdayboo · 05/09/2018 01:39

Do you have any yogurt or coconut oil you could use tonight on a tampon to ease things a little? Won't clear it, will make you more comfortable

Vagisil you can cheaply buy in Superdrug and won't cure thrush but certainly eases the itch also

Itchybitsy · 05/09/2018 14:03

I'm so embarrassed, I've been admitted to a gynae ward, to have a catheter fitted. I've got thrush, vaginitis, cystitis and have had 'the worst allergic reaction they've ever seen' inside is all blistered and so swollen I can't pee Blush

Good effort! They're also referring me for testing to see if it's latex allergy as I use latex gloves in my job so that's a concern!

OP posts:
Mayhemmumma · 05/09/2018 14:07

Don't be embarrassed you poor thing that's what the ward is for.

Thank goodness you got to your gp.

ems137 · 05/09/2018 14:19

Ooo that sounds so sore. Poor you. I get thrush regularly during pregnancy and sometimes it can be quite bad. I really feel for you with all the other problems too! Hopefully their medicine will kick in soon for you Thanks

Iooselipssinkships · 05/09/2018 14:26

Well that escalated OP! In a roundabout way it was good the chemist wouldn't sell you the cream and you saw a GP. Hope your fanny feels better soon!

Itchybitsy · 05/09/2018 14:28

@Iooselipssinkships me too!

OP posts:
user1andonly · 05/09/2018 14:33

Oh no! You poor thing. Hope they can get it under control for you asap Flowers

Itchybitsy · 05/09/2018 14:38

I went to my GP this morning and she visibly recoiled. Blush asked me how I've coped since Sunday. I haven't . I just couldn't get an appointment Hmm oh well hopefully the swelling will go down soon and I can go home

OP posts:
nocoolnamesleft · 05/09/2018 15:25

Oh dear. I was worried it was an allergic reaction, rather than "just" thrush. Hope treatment kicks in fast, and honestly glad no one did just blindly give you thrush treatment.
