nursery procedure

I started my dd in nursery and am a little confused by procedure. She's 3 later this month so not a baby. I took her and was told to leave afte half a hour without meeting her key worker- when i asked they said there was a list but could not find it. Also i signed her in but only because i noticed the sign in paper left on a table- nobody told me to do it.
Is this normal? Not to meet the key worker?
She also started crying after 2 hours and when i went to get her she was wandering around the main playroom just crying. Nobody was trying to console her.
I wasn't told much about what they had done to try and distract her. Does this all sound standard procedure to you all?

Sounds dreadful. Find a new place before your DD gets used to it.

DD has had at least 4 different key workers in the last year...I can never keep track of who it is...not that I'd be able to put a face to the name

Did they mention her crying when you picked her up? It could be she had just started crying and you walked in before an adult had got to her

I've never signed DD in...I'm assuming staff do as one usually has a clipboard near her when I drop off...

At the boys old nursery I used to sign them in and out but it was a different setting and wasn't always possible for staff to sign them in

DD must have a named key person. They don't sound organised...I'd look elsewhere.

I find with any childcare settings, if you're dubious the first day its not going to be great.

DD’s nursery is a classroom set up with a teacher and teaching assistant as opposed to a key worker. We sign them in and out via a classroom iPad. Everywhere is different so that wouldn’t worry me. What is absolutely unacceptable is the level of disorganisation, the fact that your DD was wandering around crying by herself and the staff couldn’t give any feedback. I’d be looking for somewhere else to be honest.

That's not good enough. I'd take her out. What did they say about the crying?

I was called to come and get her early as she was upset. It was just seeing her wandering around crying with no key person that was a bit strange. I thought one of the staff would discuss why she was upset and how i could help her settle.

They didn't tell me what was done to stop her crying.
