Someone put a dead mouse through my letterbox!

This morning I left my wife and DD in bed and headed out the door when I was greeted by a dead mouse, stuck on a sticky pad trap, which had been posted during the night through our letter box.

What is wrong with people?!

AIBU to now be planning on devoting my every spare minute to finding the culprit and having them put in stocks and having rotten vegetables thrown at them.

It's like marks outside your house you are about to be burgled!

Sorry have no idea but what's wrong with people!

HoleyCoMoley · 04/09/2018 15:42

What a strange thing to do, it's not got some hidden meaning, have you got a cat. People are fucking nutty.

Finfintytint · 04/09/2018 15:43

Do you have a cat and has it been leaving gifts for your neighbours?

PanickyBrum1 · 04/09/2018 15:46

holeyCoMoley we've been wracking our brains trying to figure out a reason but can't think of any. We have no cat, our front garden is tidy, we always put the bins out on the right day.

Our daughter cries in the night sometimes because she's 11 weeks old and that's what babies do but I can't bring myself to think it's the neighbours getting revenge for hearing a baby!

Do you play Disney tunes loudly?

KERALA1 · 04/09/2018 15:51

Almost certainly kids for a dare and nothing personal

rockchickchickyrock · 04/09/2018 15:51

At least it was dead - mine brought a live one in today and let it run around the house! 😱

But yes very unpleasant to find through your letterbox, maybe stupid kids doing it for a dare?

purplecorkheart · 04/09/2018 15:56

I would say it is kids for a dare than anything personal.

PanickyBrum1 · 04/09/2018 16:01

I hope you are right and it was kids for a dare. Although I'd still like to punish the kids in some kind of elaborate medieval fashion. And I consider my self to be a liberal....apparently not.

Finfintytint we don't play anything particularly loudly, I enjoy a bit of radio 4 while I'm washing up but that's about as mad as we get at the moment and the radio/TV is on a very normal volume.

Do u have a dog? Could it of been poisoned? (The mouse)

Finfintytint · 04/09/2018 16:05

Rather strange and horrible thing to happen to you. It was probably some silly teens mucking about.

FluorescentAdolescent · 04/09/2018 16:07

That is so vile. I don't think it's kids, because most kids can't be bothered to get sticky pad traps then catch mice just to post it through someone's letter box and not see the reaction.
I would be livid if that happened to me. Do you or any neighbours have CCTV cameras?

LeighaJ · 04/09/2018 16:08

It's probably from a cat looking for a new or second home. Cats like to leave presents of dead things for the people they own or want to own, maybe it's not terribly good at hunting so had to rely on a trap.

Feel appreciative that a cat has chosen your family to serve it. Smile

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 04/09/2018 16:10

Do you have a cat? Do you not feed it enough? Perhaps the neighbours feel sorry for it!

Almost certainly a cruel prank, I think.

Racecardriver · 04/09/2018 16:11

Do you have a crazy neighbour who thinks that mice a coming from your property onto theirs?

PanickyBrum1 · 04/09/2018 16:12

Notquiteagandt No pets at all I'm afraid.

FluorescentAdolescent We don't have our own personal CCTV but the I'm sure there is on the street outside. Not sure how I would get hold of the footage though.

Hope it’s just a bizarre one-off but worth considering cheap cctv or one of those Ring doorbells, just in case?

MaryBoBary · 04/09/2018 16:26

Oh dear, sounds like a classic case of getting on the wrong side of the parish council.

I’d move if I were you.

purplecorkheart · 04/09/2018 20:55

Maybe it has to do with bin collection. Do you put your rubbish in a wheelie bin or some kind of bin when it is collected? Otherwise if you just leave bags on the kerb, maybe someone thinks they attract mice. Grasping at straw really, as in my last post I misunderstood the sticky pad thing.

SpeedbirdFoxtrot · 04/09/2018 21:22

Is there a chance someone else’s cat got in through a window and dumped it there? Sorry if that sounds bizarre. When we temporarily disabled the reader on the cat flap next door’s cat would occasionally bring mice in. Definitely prompted me to get it fixed faster.

SpeedbirdFoxtrot · 04/09/2018 21:23

Oh I just saw the sticky pad trap, please ignore the above. I read through it a bit too quickly.
