Surely that depends on your interests - I follow a lot of journalists, academics and other political stuff because that interests me - but understandably it would be incredibly boring to many people.

Make use of twitter lists and divide the people you follow into categories according to your interests.

Unfollow anyone who you don't find interesting or just view your feed via your lists if like me you followed lots of people at the beginning but don't really find their tweets interesting or relevant to you.

When you find someone interesting then see who else they follow or what lists they have created or are on.

There are far too many people on twitter (and other social media) who are just using it for self promotion - I got sick of this so unfollowed anyone who was only/mainly using it for this purpose.

A good general / funny one account to follow is Very British Problems
twitter.com/SoVeryBritish

But you could also just give twitter a break and come back to it later (or not). I don't really miss it much when I don't use it, but like all social media it can also be quite addictive/ time-wasting.

I find it boring now too. I used to use it for my work but in my "new" job (now 6 months in) I don't need it to the same extent. Though I find Instagram even more boring...

Sharon Horgan
Caitlin Moran
Russell Brand
Liam Gallagher
Bert Kreischer

The last one if you've not seen his stand up gig it's so funny!

SwedishEdith · 03/09/2018 15:57

Who do you follow? What are you interested in?

Stellenbosch · 03/09/2018 17:22

I follow nearly all the people who have been suggested already! Lol

I wouldn't follow celebs but I like people who are famous in their field. So, I follow Brian Cox but because he's interesting about non-science stuff as well. I often read the comments below people I like and follow people from there is they seem interesting and their timeline shows they're not a dick.

I like people who interact with others, especially ordinary people.

ShinyMe · 03/09/2018 18:59

Totally depends on what you're interested in.

Looking at mine, some of the general ones I follow are:

@WeWantPlates (ridiculous restaurants serving things on slates/miniature trolleys/housebricks/flat caps etc)

@thecatreviewer (people review cats they meet in the street)

@keanuthings - Keanu Reeves doing things

@firthactivity - Colin Firth doing things

@OregonZoo - cute animal videos including lots of otters and baby elephants

@70s_party - 70s dinner party and recipe book horrors

@johnlewis is quite entertaining, especially around Christmas time. It's a bloke that people keep tweeting thinking he's the retail store.

buttermilkwaffles · 03/09/2018 19:06

Yes @WeWantPlates is another good one. :)
