I’ve had a phone call from a former colleague this morning to say over 200 pictures of me and my family holidays appeared on his iPad last night and he has no idea how. At first I thought it was a joke but he described several of the outfits I was wearing/my home interior etc and I figured out that he was telling the truth. The pictures were not taken on an iPhone and I was not on Facebook or anything and they date back to around 8 years ago. I’m mortified as there are holiday bikini pictures on and I just find it a huge privacy invasion and really creepy! Obviously it’s not the poor guy’s fault and neither of us understand how it happened and both of us feel quite uncomfortable.

The pictures were taken on a Canon digital camera that I don’t even use the MacBook that these pictures are stored on and haven’t since 2013. I’ve not accessed iTunes in a long time or hooked up any devices to my new computer etc. If he can see them I’m wondering who else can! I’ve not seen him for a number of years and his phone isn’t in my contacts. These pictures aren’t on my phone and sharing is switched off on it (as far as I know!).

Please can I ask what your top privacy tips are?! How should I set things on my phone/devices/laptop etc for maximum security? I posted something about being a technophobe yesterday and it’s only got worse now!

Your accounts are linked in some way. Check both apple accounts linked to your macbook and his ipad. Check on your macbook the settings for photo sharing.

This link support.apple.com/en-gb/HT206186 will help.

google photos??....I found some old photos a while back, mine seem to go all over the place depending on which email is logged in

some sort of log in/synching coincidence on a shared computer at work?

can you work out when the newest photo is, and track back from there?

Thanks, will check these. I’m stopping by our old workplace after work tonight to see what’s happened. I’m wondering if it’s anything to do with an old iPod that went missing as the pictures were all on that. I also don’t think I ever put anything on the shared work computer but he’s thinking that he recently charged his iPad by attaching it to the computer and that’s how they’ve appeared. As I say, I never used the work computer for personal reasons but perhaps I also did the same (charging my phone/iPad) years ago and my photos uploaded. I will investigate further!
