it's the only season that everyone knows the start date of?

This morning my Facebook was awash with people rhapsodising over the start of Autumn. As it turned it it has effectively been a lovely Summer's day which it would have been called yesterday ( August).

It occurred to me that although there are some official dates for the start of the others , no one uses them. It's more to do with how we perceive the weather .So December and January are obviously winter but November can be mild and Autumnal or freezing and therefore Winter .Spring kicks off anytime from early January to late March.

So basically people like Autumn because it's a set change in the year as opposed to loving September.
Anyone on the other side of the hemisphere find this true for another time of year or am I cross that summer if gone..
