Ok so I posted a thread yesterday feeling sorry for myself after a breakup and birthday depression. (thanks for the support everyone)

Anyway I've decided on a holiday to cheer myself up and a friend wants to come with me as she has no one to go with either, we're not exactly best friends and have only known each other about a year and even though she is really nice I'm worried about getting bored or running out of things to say to each other, so I'm look for some inspiration on where to go with things to do.
I've always wanted to go to Skopelos (mamma mia island) since I saw the movie 10 years ago but I'm not sure there is a lot to do, my friend on the other hand wants to go to new York - I've been before and it is amazing so wouldn't mind going again but it was so expensive and that was like 5 years ago so I'm guessing it would cost even more now.

So basically I just want to be nosy and ask if you were going away, where would you go?

Japan. Enjoy the craziness of Tokyo then go chill out in Kyoto. Eat ramen.

I can't go on holiday with friends though. Can just about tolerate going away with DP Blush

Am very much a solo traveler.

Bora Bora and Easter Island. I can dream.

Sarahandduck18 · 01/09/2018 13:11

I know someone who went to Bora Bora

They are the best holiday photos ever.

If I win the lottery I’ll be spending my first day getting the 4 flights it takes to get there!

DisneyMice · 01/09/2018 13:28

Dream locations are:
Mexico
Cuba
Argentina
Galapagos
Easter Island

We went to the Galapagos on our honeymoon and it was amazing. Truly the trip of a lifetime.

There are so many amazing cities in Europe I want to go to aswell.

You could do one of those guided tours though through someone like G adventures.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 01/09/2018 13:29

With no budget, my top three are Antarctica, Galápagos Islands and the gorillas in Rwanda.

loveka · 01/09/2018 13:35

Skopelos is great! You get a boat from Skiathos, which goes past the Mama Mia church.

There isn't lots to 'do' but if you go to different beaches every day and read you would only have evenings to make conversation anyway!

I would make sure you get a 2 bedroom apartment or villa with a pool, so you have your own space.

The best city break I have been on is to Venice. It really is an amazing place. We went in April, which was perfect. A great holiday I would like to do is a few days in Venice, then get the boat to Corfu and spend a week there on the beautiful North East coast. Best of both worlds.

Birdsgottafly · 01/09/2018 14:02

Both write down what you want to do on holiday and other requirements, such as minimum temperature, budget etc.

See if you can agree on similar things, before you commit to going away together.

Then go over expectations about the time spent together, picking up other people, drinking/sleeping.

Our idea about things to do, may not be of interest to you, or her.

Maldives

HolyMountain · 01/09/2018 14:44

Bora Bora is my dream but the length of the flight puts me off.

Theresnodisneyending · 01/09/2018 14:52

Japan. It's always, always been Japan. I've been so many times and my heart is still left there, every single time.

Theresnodisneyending · 01/09/2018 14:53

My husband has been to NY - it's "Ok" - not really worth spending hundreds on. Queues for tourist sites massively long. Takes ages to travel across the city. Not a "relaxing" holiday. Good if you're a foodie.

LittleKitty1985 · 01/09/2018 15:29

Can you give us some more info about what sort of holiday you want... How long do you want to be away for? What's your total budget? Hotels or hostels? Beaches or city breaks? Historical sites or natural ones? Bar hopping or wellness spas? Etc

Starlight345 · 01/09/2018 15:33

I am going to Iceland next year . That is one of my dream locations

LittleKitty1985 · 01/09/2018 15:35

But the answer to your question for me is Vietnam. Amazing country, beautiful awe-inspiring scenery, fascinating culture and history, delicious food, & omg is it cheap!!

LittleKitty1985 · 01/09/2018 15:37

@Starlight345 Iceland is amazing and you should definitely go, but be prepared to spend a LOT of money, the prices make your eyes water, £12 for a pint of beer!

CottonSock · 01/09/2018 15:38

I'm just back from northern Spain and San Sebastian, it was beautiful.

Iceland was amazing.

I loved Paris more than I expected .

Caribbean is top of my list.

DickensianHysteric · 01/09/2018 15:39

Mine's Japan too. Or a train trip through the Canadian Rockies.

JayDot500 · 01/09/2018 15:40

Japan! It's just got everything needed for fun and/or relaxation Smile

RollaCola84 · 01/09/2018 15:44

Bora Bora would be my dream destination also Santorini and Mykonos

Starlight345 · 01/09/2018 16:32

Thank you @LittleKitty1985

I have paid for holiday savings pending money

LightDrizzle · 01/09/2018 16:42

Money no object - Japan
Medium - Thailand
Budget - Corfu on a deal.

WhiteCaribou · 01/09/2018 16:50

Costa Rica (beautiful country, rainforests, wildlife, the friendliest people, sloths!) and Norway also incredibly beautiful in a very different way.

P0ppyP0wer1 · 01/09/2018 16:50

If you don't have any ties and can travel when the children are at school the prices are much cheaper. I was browsing recently the cheapest I found was Morocco for £118 each for a few days for flight and accommodation.

Saidthesharktotheflyingfish · 01/09/2018 16:51

Summer or winter? I'd recommend Aurora chasing in the Arctic but realise that might not be what you had in mind Grin
