Obsessed with food

My DC are obsessed with food. They are older now and arrange to see their mates independently. The girls especially always seem to go to Costa, McDonald's, Starbucks etc. Occasionally they might meet at the shopping centre but will still get milkshakes, or go to Poundland and buy multipacks of chocolate. I don't know where this comes from? We have always been an active family enjoying hobbies together. I get that older kids like to just "hang" but I hate this constant snacking and asking for food or money for food. I just don't think it's healthy.

Examples this summer:
Hey DC how about we go to the beach? Answer: can we get ice creams?
How about the cinema as it's raining? Answer: ooh yes we can get popcorn!
Let's go for a walk! Answer: can we get fish and chips on the way back?

Confused

Using my dc (age 9, 11, 12 and 14) as examples but their friends also seem to have a very similar interest in incorporating eating into everything (and eating crap generally)

One of my DC is gaining weight at an alarming rate (the other three normal weight) and I don't want to make food an issue but equally I wish they didn't feel the need to eat all the time. Surely it's normal to feel hungry at meal times? And not keep hunger at bay by constantly snacking?
