To cancel replacement parcel

Ordered an item off Amazon, tracker showed that it had been delivered today, along with a picture and calling card.
I went into garden, it wasn't there, called Amazon who very kindly agreed to send me a replacement free of charge.
However, ds just been out for another look, and found it... IN THE WHEELIE BIN Hmm
So I've called Amazon and told them that I havethe parcel after all, and they've said they'll cancel replacement.
Friend thinks Iwbu and I shouldof kept my mouth shut.
Out of interest, what would you have done?

Er just what you did as I’m not a thief!

LongSummerDays · 31/08/2018 15:12

Same as you. Honesty is the best policy.

fuzzywuzzy · 31/08/2018 15:12

I'd have done the same as you did.

MrsMozart · 31/08/2018 15:14

Not telling would be stealing...

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 31/08/2018 15:16

Well I would have looked in the wheely bin first, it’s a common place they leave parcels! But yeh I would have told them.

Loopylou6 · 31/08/2018 15:18

Glad people agree with me Smile
I've never heard of parcels being put in a bin, there's, well, rubbish in it Confused

I'd be tempted to keep my mouth shut and hope that it spurred Amazon to stop using delivery people who leave parcels in the bloody bin.

In practice I'd probably have done the same as you but I wouldnt think of them as "kindly" sending me a replacement. You paid to be supplied with an item, not for it to be dropped in your bin where it could be nicked by anyone or emptied.

feebeecat · 31/08/2018 15:23

Would have done the same. Tried to do the same last week, tracker showed my parcel as being delivered, a bit of a hunt later I found it. But it wasn't mine. Informed them and added I didn't know where to return this parcel as no invoice notice etc, told me to keep it and sent a replacement. Some sort of electrical gadget, I have no clue what it does, but thanks. (Gave it to db to play with/figure out what it was).

Loopylou6 · 31/08/2018 15:25

I did tell the customer service agent, when he asked if there was anything else he could help with, that maybe they could tell their delivery people not to put parcels in bins, especially when my account clearly states to leave BEHIND the bin if I'm not in WinkGrin

You did the right thing.

We had a parcel left in our wheelie bin once. In our wheelie bin that was sat on the kerb waiting for the bin men. Never saw that parcel again!

FrogFairy · 31/08/2018 16:06

I wonder how many parcels have ended up in landfill? Muppets!

borlottibeans · 31/08/2018 16:25

I'd do what you did, but only after I'd opened it up and checked it wasn't saturated with bin juice.

Loopylou6 · 31/08/2018 16:45

I know, absolute idiot's.
Good point Bor, I haven't even opened it yet Shock

I had a book people parcel left on a recycle bin in once. But the delivery card stated ‘parcel in green bin’ & thankfully it wasn’t bin day and the bin wasn’t grubby.

It is a stupid place to put a brand new delivery!

Justanotheruser01 · 31/08/2018 19:36

You did the right thing. Have to admit though had it of been chocolate theyd left in the bin theyd be replacing it still!
