Heading off for a weekend break in Sheffield, somewhere I have never been before and know very little about! Teen DC's keen to do some shopping at Meadowhall, and I know it borders the Peak District- other than that, what would you recommend we try to do/see while we're there? Thanks for any advice!

I have a close friend who lives in Sheffield so have visited quite a lot.
Are you going this weekend? If so this looks good;

I saw it advertised when I was there recently.
The Botanical Gardens are nice anyway.
You can easily spend a day at Meadowhall. Shopping isn't my cup of tea though.
There are lots of outdoor activities just outside Sheffield. Stanadge Edge is a lovely place to visit. Lovely walk with great views. Loads of others similar.
Kelham island is good for food, lots of lovely pubs and restaurants close together. Ecclesall road is also good for food etc. Enjoy - one of my favourite places to visit and hugely under rated.

The winter gardens and peace gardens are both nice to wander round or sit in (next to one another too) and you have to go on the supertram to meadowhell - it's the law! If you've got the car, go out to Ladybower Reservoir and dinner at the Snake Pass Inn on the way, or out to Blue John or Devil's Arse cavern at Castleton. Sheffield is gorgeous, lived there for 7 years and miss it so!!

I just spent seven weeks in Sheffield.

Chatsworth House is worth seeing. Beautiful house, stunning gardens, plenty of choices for food. For younger DCs there is also an animal farm and a very large adventure playground.

The winter gardens are worth a little stroll and right next to them is the gallery which has an interesting exhibition on Victorian women photographers on at the moment.

See what is on at the Sheffield Arena, Lyceum and Crucible. We saw Walking with Dinosaurs which was excellent and Flashdance the musical which was not very good.

If you like quirky clothes don’t miss the Blue Banana as you go from the Peace Gardens to the Moor centre.

Magna adventure centre would be worth a visit if more than half of the exhibits were not broken.

Vero Gusto is the best restaurant in the town centre. Oysho is also good.

Weston Park Museum is definitely worth a visit Smile

Division Street is fab for food, bars and quirky little shops. Lucky Fox for amazing fried chicken, Steamyard for quirky coffee and cakes, Cake R Is is a lovely little chinese bakery and BB's for delicious Italian Food.
Ecclesall Road and Sharrowvale Road the same (head to Eve's Kitchen for out of this world donuts and Graze in for amazing selection of gin and great food) And then you can walk through the beautiful endcliffe park to forge dam.
Kelham Island is great, head to the museum and then just outside it Craft and Dough for pizza.
Leopold Square has plenty of nice restaurants and bars in the town centre and Orchard Square across the road has a lovely bubble tea shop.
Have a great weekend!
