Been with my partner for 7 years now, we've got a great relationship and looking to buying a house in a few months. Recently, he's started to have this horrible habit of not flushing the loo.

When he's gone out for a drink, he gets up in the middle of the night and has a wee. When I get up in the morning, it's still in the loo but it absolutely stinks! It's stank out the whole of upstairs, and I told him politely he needs to flush the loo. It's becoming more and more common where he goes for a wee and it stinks the house, I can still smell it now even though I've bleached the toilet!!!

I tried to ask him nicely about this, but now I've ended up losing my rag!!! Do you think I am being unreasonable to expect him to flush the loo? he seems to think it's a small thing to get annoyed about, but when it stinks the house, of course I'm going to be annoyed!!! Angry

I think he needs to get himself to the Dr's if his urine in the toilet is enough to drink out a whole floor.

Tistheseason17 · 30/08/2018 23:27

It is a small thing. Plus, it's better for the environment to not flush all the time.

But, yep, wee stinks so you're not totally BU. .

There are bigger things to worry about like gambling, drinking to excess, not telling you where he's going, disappearing without contact, lying, cheating.... IYSWIM 😊

Sounds to me you're asking the wrong thing. We dont flush pee overnight out of consideration ,(for me because my bedroom is on the bathroom) Wink and if my husband's wee stinks to 'stinking the house out levels' I'd be wondering what was up and be concerned about his health.

gamerchick · 30/08/2018 23:29

Or you're pregnant with that hyper sense of smell thing going on.

Fatted · 30/08/2018 23:31

Another vote for if it smells that bad what's up with him? My DH doesn't do it at night and it's annoying but nothing bleach or a cleaning block can't deal with.

LisaDav · 30/08/2018 23:36

I am 30 weeks preg, so maybe it's a heightened sense of smell??

If it's yellow let it mellow if it's brown flush it down?

Legageddon · 30/08/2018 23:40

Minor altho I’d wonder why it smelt that bad and also if you have asked him why he still won’t flush?

But I couldn’t get het up about it tbh

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 30/08/2018 23:44

Can he at least start putting the lid down if he doesn't want to flush? Then the pee smell won't waft...

It's probably good practice to start keeping the lid down, you'll have little fingers touching it all soon enough.

PositivelyPERF · 30/08/2018 23:46

Spray some Vipoo into the loo, before you go to bed. That should help.

arethereanyleftatall · 30/08/2018 23:52

No one in our house flushes for a wee, especially not overnight. Bad for environment.
But, to my nose, it doesn't stink at all. I assume stinky wee is strange?

arethereanyleftatall · 30/08/2018 23:53

Ah, just seen you're pregnant. Yes. That's the issue. Loos stank to retching levels when I was pregnant.

EstuaryBird · 31/08/2018 00:04

I feel your pain OP. Man pee stinks and drunken man pee is worse.
Not to be indiscreet but if it's still reeking after you've cleaned it then it's likely that he's had a bit of an aim failure and it's coming from the surrounding area. I speak from long and bitter experience x

OutPinked · 31/08/2018 00:07

Ahh yes, probably a pregnancy thing. I’m also 30 weeks pregnant and my DP’s piss stinks to high heavens, never noticed it before Grin.

Maybe your DP is dehydrated?

Anyway, I don’t flush every time I go at night because I currently go about 500 times a night and I’m afraid I’d wake everyone up.

Aaaahfuck · 31/08/2018 00:21

I think being pregnant is probably massively heightened your sense of smell but he needs to respect that and flush the fucking loo. If you weren't pregnant I'd be worried about his wee smelling that bad.

NC4Now · 31/08/2018 00:38

I’d be more annoyed that you’ve told him it offends you and he carries on. If I upset someone with my wee I’d be mortified.
I’d tell him again: since I’ve been pregnant, the smell in the bathroom knocks me sick. I know it’s not a big deal for you, but can you please flush the loo?

RavenLG · 31/08/2018 00:53

No one in our house flushes for a wee
Genuine Q... does the toilet not get clogged with paper?

Meh, it's a pee. DP leaves skiddies in the bowl sometimes, I know what I would prefer lol.

arethereanyleftatall · 31/08/2018 09:40

@RavenLG
No, because there's probably a poo in between every few wees, which gets flushed.
If it got to the stage where there was loads of paper/wee in there, then someone would flush.
It isn't a strict rule not to flush, common sense is applied.
