bloody freecycle!

So I unearthed 3 yucca plants in our new garden which I didn't want. Rather than binning them, I listed them on freecycle.
Had 3 replies within half an hour, all sounded keen. In the meantime I discovered 2 more small yuccas, so promised them all out.
The first two guys came round on tuesday and collected the plants, said thanks nicely, all good.
The final guy was meant to come today at 6:30. I had to drop my DP off somewhere and was worried I wouldn't be back in time, so emailed to say I was sorry but I'd been held up and would be home by 6:45.
So now, it's 7:35, and no sign!
grr...
AIBU to think that if you're being given something for free, you should bother to turn up?
I'm extra annoyed as I wanted to keep the pot that this one was in, and spent half an hour trying to get it out, but couldn't... So was going to give this guy the pot I actually wanted, just to honour what I'd said!

I gave up on Freecycle a few years ago. So many rude bastards on there. Whenever I offered something, there were usually at least 5 emails saying "I'll av it", no you won't you ill-mannered twat. Or people that wanted it delivering. Or the dickhead that asked if the treadmill would fit in their car (how do I know? I've given you the measurements). Everything goes to charity shops now.

MereDintofPandiculation · 31/08/2018 11:32

Add to that the people who arrive and tell you it's too big (despite the accurate measurements being in your ad.) or "I wanted a white one" when your ad said very clearly it was red.

I started a blacklist.

Then decided life was too short. Sorry freecycle.

Creeper8 · 31/08/2018 11:34

this is why if im giving away something for free i will say its outside my address please pm for details. saves waiting around for people.

Creeper8 · 31/08/2018 11:35

im getting rid of a table and chairs and im just chucking it, did think about giving it for free but too many ungrateful people.

We leave things outside the house on the pavement with a note on, help yourself. Stuff is usually gone in 30 minutes.

Aprilshowersinaugust · 31/08/2018 11:39

Oo I would love to rehome a yucca!!

Rebecca36 · 31/08/2018 11:42

Me too, my mum had a lovely yucca and I now feel nostalgic.

Duchessgummybuns · 31/08/2018 11:45

The best part about free cycle is the wanted ads... I used to have a bingo card for the grabby bastards, points for unrealistic expectations (ie asking for a car) and phrases such as “it’s a long shot but...” and “I’ll take it off your hands” Grin

Cliveybaby · 31/08/2018 11:56

Haha yeah the wanted ads!
Have seen ones asking for tvs (but only new, flatscreen, above a certain size etc), Iphones (but only the last model)... it's too funny.

Have got rid of a lot of crap that even the charity shop wouldn't want though...
I tend to have 3 tiers of stuff - 1) sellable, working, goes on ebay. 2) ok condition but either didn't sell on ebay or not worth the effort of listing, tends to go to charity shop, 3) random left over stuff that I couldn't sell and charity shop wouldn't want - that goes on freecycle. Tends to be diy/building/garden stuff.

Have got rid of several old mattresses, bags of broken tiles, old lino, loads of demijohns (not worth posting)...

Honestly, I just wait for a dry day, put stuff on the drive with a 'FREE' sign, and chuck it if it's not gone in 36h.

Nothing's lasted more than a few hours - area of high footfall. I've picked up a nice mirror from a neighbour that way.
