Particularly because the stupid system wouldn't let me pay cash into my bank account using a paying-in slip - apparently you have to use a card, and then the PO person has to weigh each bag of coins, then sort out how much you're paying in himself, rather than ticking it off on the slip. Obviously that's going to take twice as long And if I'd known that when I tried on Monday (when there was no-one else there) I wouldn't have needed to go back today.

Oh dont worry about it I am an ebayer and I cause a long queue, but the thing is, usually ive stood behind someone waiting (without tutting) myself while they sort out what they need to do.

theUrbanDryad · 06/06/2007 12:31

tis just human nature i'm afraid. you should've said to the person nearest you, "There wouldn't be a problem if they had more staff, eh?" thus shifting the blame from you!

ShrinkingViolet · 06/06/2007 12:35

this was with both counters open .

It's a post office they should expect to queue, i mean thats what always happens doesn't it.

ViciousSquirrelSpotter · 06/06/2007 12:58

You didn't cause a queue

Their lack of counters and their system did.

Nothing to do with you, guv'nor

I get weirdly stressed out by Post Offices - everything is so complicated

I just smile sweetly when I'm exiting the post office if I've caused a queue. You're entitled to take as long as you need in the PO.

I had a PO clerk once ask me if Limerick was in NI or the Republic of Ireland - surely it's her job to know or look it up? I was just sending off the book someone had bought from me on Amazon. I'm not a walking a-z.

DaisyMOO · 06/06/2007 13:47

Was it the postmaster/mistress or the other customers? I've had the former have a right go at me for the same thing, having had the absolute cheek to pay in the jumble sale takings at the post office when there were no other customers even there!

SueBaroo · 06/06/2007 13:51

silly sods. Queues happen. It's England.

MadMumsy · 06/06/2007 13:52

Doesn't it make you sick - for goodness sake if they haven't enough staff to cope, whose fault is that I ask.

You went to the PO because you needed to, not to cause a queue.

People do not have any patients anymore. A bit more patients and some pleases and thankyous now and again would go a long way. No wonder this country is going to the dogs so quickly.

Ohhhhhh sorry, I will get off my soap box now!!!

tuppy · 06/06/2007 14:09

They are strange places and yanbu. Their fault for poor staffing.

Quick hijack - I sell on Amazon so am in my PO a lot. Why is it when I clearly ask for, say, first class postage for my items, the clerk invariably asks "is it going inland then ?"

I really feel like ranting at him/her "NO it's for fecking Ulan Bator..Of course it's for inland. That's why I'm asking for a domestic postal rate rather than airmail, airsure or whatever"

bookwormmum · 06/06/2007 14:14

I've had 'debates' with my PO when I've asked for the cheapest postal rate and she chirps up 'its only 2p more expensive to send it first class'. So?? If I wanted first class..... I'd ask for it.

MadMumsy · 06/06/2007 14:23

I think it is in the job description that they have to be impolite and stroppy - then they get the job!!

GlassSlipper · 06/06/2007 14:24

Istnt tutting part of the whole post office experience??

bookwormmum · 06/06/2007 14:27

When they've finished tutting in the post office at some hapless person, they'll probably go down the library and click their teeth at folk having the temerity to read the daily papers or sit in their seat or take out the book they had their eye on.

Some folk are never happy.
